Description

Set up the PIXMA MX340 for use over a wireless network (LAN) via the WPS (Wi-Fi protected setup) method.

Solution

If your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi® Protected Setup), you can easily connect your printer to the wireless network.

Before you begin

  • Make sure that the computer and access point (or router) are connected.

  • In an office setup, consult your network administrator.

  • If an error message appears or if you have trouble with the network connection, refer to the printed manual: Network Setup Troubleshooting.

  • An "Ad-hoc connection," which establishes a direct connection to the computer over a wireless connection without using an access point, is not supported.

WPS setup

For details on WPS, refer to the manual of your router.

  1. Press the Menu  three times to display Device settings.

  2. Use the right or left arrow  or  (B) to select LAN settings, then tap OK. The LAN settings screen displays.

  3. Use the right or left arrow  or  to select WLAN active/inactive, then tap OK. The WLAN active / inactive screen displays.

  4. Use the  right or left arrow   or  (B) to select Wireless LAN active, then tap OK. The LAN settings screen displays. When wireless connection is enabled, the Wi-Fi lamp (C) lights blue.

  5. Use the right or left arrow   or  to select Wireless LAN setup, then tap OK. The Wireless LAN setup screen displays.

  6. Use the  right or left arrow   or  to select WPS, then tap OK. The WPS screen displays.

  7. Use the  right or left arrow  or  to select Push button method, then tap OK.

  8. When you see the message below, press and hold the WPS button on the router for about 5 seconds, then tap OK on the machine within 2 minutes.

  9. When message below appears, tap OK.

PIN code setup

  1. To use the PIN code method for setup, select PIN code method instead of Push button method in step 7, then tap OK. Follow the onscreen instructions to operate the machine and router.
Then press OK when "Connected Press [OK] appears."

  2. When the screen "LAN settings Print LAN details" appears in step 10, tap COPY to return to the copy standby screen.

  3. A timeout error occurs if setup is not completed within 10 minutes. If the timeout error screen appears, tap OK, then perform the setup again and set the new PIN code displayed on the screen to the router.
For details on the WPS button pressing, refer to the manual of your access point.

  4. The Wi-Fi lamp on the machine flashes while searching for or connecting to an access point.

  5. Click on this link to install the software.

Software installation

The section isn't necessary if you used a network setup cable to install the software.

  • To use the printer with a computer, software needs to be installed on the computer. The installation process takes about 20 minutes.

  • Close all applications before you install.

  • Log on with administrator rights.

  • Internet connection may be required during the installation.

  • It may be necessary to restart your computer during the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions and do not remove the Setup CD-ROM during restart. • If the firewall of your security software is turned on, a warning message may appear that Canon software is attempting to access the network. If such a warning message appears, set the security software to always allow access.
