  1. Prepare two sheets of Letter-sized plain paper.

  3. Fold the other paper in half widthwise, and then unfold it.

  4. 4. Load the paper folded in step 3 on the paper loaded in step 2.

A Load the paper folded in step 3 with the open side facing up.

  5. Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the right. See Paper Thickness Lever.

  6. Hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button until the Power lamp flashes green five times, and then release it immediately.

Bottom Plate Cleaning is performed and only the paper folded in step 3 is ejected.

Check the folded part of the ejected paper. If it is smudged with ink, perform Bottom Plate Cleaning again.

When performing Bottom Plate Cleaning again, make sure to use a new piece of paper, and proceed from step 3.

If the problem is not resolved after performing cleaning twice, the protrusions inside the printer may be stained. Clean them according to instructions below:

Cleaning the Protrusions Inside the Printer

With the printer powered off, open the print head cover and clean the printer:

Caution: Be sure to turn off the power and disconnect the power plug (and battery if applicable) before cleaning the printer. If the print head cover is opened with the printer powered on, the print head holder will move, which may cause injury, or damage to the printer.

  1. Using a cotton swab or similar item, carefully wipe off ink droplets on the protruding ribs and their edges.

Note: Do not use tissue paper, rough-textured cloth, or similar materials, as this may scratch the surface.
Wipe off ink droplets on the ribs and the surrounding areas shown by the arrows.

  2. Clean the ribs, marked in red in the image.

  3. Carefully clean the ribs and the surrounding areas (particularly their base).

Note: When cleaning the printer, do not touch the film or the white grease. If you touch the film or spread the grease to other parts, it may cause damage to the printer. If you touched the grease continue cleaning after washing your hands.
