If the paper feed roller is dirty or paper dust is attached to it, the paper may not feed properly. In this case, the paper feed rollers will need to be cleaned.
Cleaning wears out the paper feed roller, so perform this only when necessary.
Clean the paper feed roller
-
Turn the printer ON.
-
Open the paper output tray, and pull out the output tray extension.
-
If the inner cover is open, close it.
-
Open the printer driver setup window (specific steps for Windows and Mac are provided below).
-
Select the radio button next to the paper feed location you want to use (Rear Tray or Manual Feed Tray), then select OK.
If you chose Manual Feed Tray, skip to Step 7.
-
Remove the paper from the rear tray and select OK. The paper feed roller will clean without paper in it. The roller rotates as it cleans. Wait for it to stop, then go to the next step.
-
Load three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the rear tray, then select OK. The printer starts cleaning.
-
Cleaning completes and the paper ejects. When the completion message appears, select OK.
Don't perform any other operations until the printer completes the task.
-
Repeat Steps 7-8 two more times.
-
The cleaning completes after the third cycle. When the completion message appears, select OK.
If the problem isn't resolved after cleaning the paper feed roller in the rear tray
-
Turn off the power and disconnect the power plug.
-
Wipe the paper feed roller (the large paper feed roller in the center and the three rollers on each side of it) as follows:
-
Wipe (A) located in the rear tray with a moistened cotton swab or a clean white cloth.
Don't touch the paper feed roller (B) with your fingers.
-
Wipe the paper feed roller parts while turning the shaft (C) with your fingers.
-
After you clean the paper feed roller parts, turn on the power and repeat the procedure from step 1 to clean the paper feed roller.
