Learn how to connect your PIXMA PRO-1 printer to your computer with a USB cable.

Solution

Follow the steps below to use a USB cable to connect your PIXMA PRO-1 printer to your Windows or Mac computer.



Before you begin

​An Internet connection is required for installation.

Don't connect the USB cable yet, quit all applications before you begin the installation.

​Make sure you log in as the administrator or a member of the administrator's group.

To use the machine with a computer connection, install the software and drivers first. The installation process takes about 20 minutes, but may vary depending on your computer and the number of applications you want to install.

The instructions below refer to the Setup CD that came with your printer. If you don't have the Setup CD, or if your computer doesn't have a CD / DVD drive, you can download and install the printer driver as well as any software from the Canon website.

 


Disconnect the USB Cable

If you connected the USB cable before the software was installed, follow these steps


For Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from your computer.

  2. Proceed to Step 1 under the heading Install the software.


For Windows Vista/Windows XP

This dialog box may appear:

  1. Remove the USB cable connected to your computer.

  2. If the dialog box closes, proceed to Step 1 below.

  3. Select Cancel.

  4. Proceed to Step 1 below.

 

Install the software

Depending on your operating system find the steps for both Windows and Mac below depending on what you need.
 

Windows

  1. If the printer (A) is on, turn it off (B). It may take up to 60 seconds to power off.

  2. Turn the computer on, and insert the Setup CD into the computer. The setup program should start automatically. If it doesn't, double-click on the CD icon in Computer or My Computer. When the CD content appears, double-click on MSETUP4.EXE.

  3. If you get a prompt to run Msetup4.exe on the AutoPlay screen, select Yes or Continue. If the User Account Control dialog box reappears in the following steps, select Yes or Continue.

  4. Select Easy Install to install the drivers, applications, and on-screen manuals. If you want to select particular items to install, select Custom Install.

  5. Select Install.

  6. Select Use the printer via USB, then select Next. Follow any on-screen instructions to continue with the software installation.

  7. When the Printer Connection screen appears, connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable. The USB port is the upper port on the right side at the back of the printer.


  8. After you connect the cable, turn on the printer.

  9. When the screen below appears, open the paper support (C).

  10. Open the feed slot cover (D), then move the paper guides (E) to the edges.

  11. Load the two sheets of Matte Photo Paper MP-101 that came with the printer in the rear tray (F). Load the paper in portrait orientation so the cut corner (G) is at the top right.

  12. Gently slide the left and right paper guides against edges of the paper.


     

  13. Gently close the feed slot cover (D).

  14. ​Open the paper output tray (H), then pull out the output tray extension (I).

  15. Select Execute. Don't open the top cover (J) while printing. If the orange alarm lamp (K) flashes, check the error screen on the computer, then start again from 7.


     

  16. When the Start Print Head Alignment screen appears, select Align Print Head. Select OK in the subsequent message. A print head alignment takes about 7-8 minutes.

  17. When the second page of the pattern prints, the print head alignment is complete. Remove the paper. Please note that some parts of the pattern on the first page are faint.

  18. ​Select Next on the Print Head Alignment screen.

  • If you align the print head automatically again, you may see different patterns than the ones shown above..

  • If the Alarm lamp (orange) (K) flashes, press the Resume / Cancel button (L) on the printer to clear the error, then select Next.

  • If the serial number doesn't display on the registration screen, input the number found inside the printer.

  1. The Extended Survey Program screen appears. Select Agree to participate or Do not agree to skip the survey.

  2. Select Exit to complete the installation.

  3. Solution Menu EX starts. Remove the Setup disc and keep it in a safe place. 
    Note The display of Solution Menu EX may vary depending on the country or region of purchase.

    Note In Windows 7 and Windows Vista SP1 or later, the XPS Printer Driver is an additional install. To install it, select Custom Install in step 4, then XPS Printer Driver from the Custom Install screen.

 
 

Macintosh

  1. If the printer is on (A), turn off the printer (B). It may take up to 60 seconds to power off.
     

  2. Turn the computer back on.

  3. Download and install the CUPS printer driver from the Canon website.

  4. After you install the CUPS printer driver, connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable. The USB port is the upper port on the right side at the back of the printer.

  5. ​After you connect the cable, turn on the printer.

  6. Open the paper support (C).

  7. Open the feed slot cover (D), then move the paper guides (E) to the edges.
     


     

  8. Load the two sheets of Matte Photo Paper MP-101 that came with the printer in the rear tray (F). Load the paper in portrait orientation so that the cut corner (G) is at the top right.
     


     

  9. Slide the left and right paper guides against edges of the paper. Don't slide the paper guides too hard against the paper.


     

  10. Gently close the feed slot cover (D).

  11. ​Open the paper output tray (H), then pull out the output tray extension (I).

  1. Align the print head.

  • Easy-WebPrint EX is Web print software that installs on the computer with the supplied software.

  • Internet Explorer 7 or later (Windows) or Safari 4 or later (Mac OS X v.10.5 or later) is required to use this software.
