Before you begin

  1. Make sure your computer and wireless router are connected. (A) Internet (B) Router

  2. Quit all applications.

  3. Log on with administrator rights. In an office setup, consult your network administrator.

  • If your network is protected by a security firewall, a warning message may appear that Canon software is attempting to access the network. If this warning appears, set the security software to always allow access.

Note Setup details will vary depending on your system and network environment. For details, refer to your device's instruction manual or contact its manufacturer.
Caution If you connect to a network that's not protected with security measures, your personal data is at risk of being exposed to a third party.

Install the software

  1. Turn the computer ON.

  2. Download and install the CUPS printer driver from the Canon USA website.
Tip You can also download and install software for your printer from the Canon USA website, such as My Image Garden (for printing images), Print Studio Pro (plug-in for Adobe® Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom), and the IJ Network Tool.

  3. Remove the cap A, then connect the printer to a router with an ethernet cable B.

  4. Select the Apple menu then System Preferences.

  5. Select Printers & Faxes > Print & Scan > Printers & Scanners (the name will vary depending on your version of macOS®).
