The lock lever of the print head isn't locked properly (there are two tabs of the lock lever). Push the left (1) and right (2) tab until each one clicks into place.

If the lamp on the ink tank isn't lit, the ink tank may not be installed properly.

Push the ink tank until it clicks into place.
-
If the lamp on the ink tank flashes, ink may have run out.
-
It is recommended to replace the ink tank.
If a print job is in progress and you want to continue, tap RESUME/CANCEL with the ink tank installed. Replacement of the ink tank is recommended. The printer may be damaged if printing continues with low ink levels.

The printer has a built-in ink absorber to hold the ink used when print head cleaning.

Eight flashes indicates that the ink absorber is nearly full.

Tap RESUME/CANCEL to cancel the error so you can continue.

The ability to print is disabled once the ink absorber becomes completely full and it needs to be replaced. Service will soon be required

PictBridge compliant devices are attached to direct print port and Bluetooth® unit connector.

A communication time out occurs if a print job takes a long time or if it takes too much time to send data. This may cancel your print job. Disconnect the USB cable and then reconnect it.
-
When you use a PictBridge compliant device, based on the model or brand of your device, you may have to select a PictBridge compliant print mode on the device before you connect it to the printer. You may also have to turn on the camera or select play mode manually after you connect the device to the printer. Perform necessary operations based on your device's instruction manual before you reconnect it to the printer.
-
Check the device connected to the direct print port or Bluetooth unit connector on the printer. PictBridge compliant devices or the optional Bluetooth unit BU-30 can be connected to the printer for direct prints.
-
When PictBridge compliant devices are attached to the direct print port and Bluetooth unit connector on the printer, disconnect PictBridge compliant devices and connect either of the PictBridge compliant devices again.
-
When the optional Bluetooth units BU-30 are attached to the direct print port and Bluetooth unit connector on the printer, turn off the printer, and then remove either of the Bluetooth units. For details on how to remove the Bluetooth unit, refer to the Bluetooth guide on screen manual.

Paper of size other than A4 or Letter is loaded in the rear tray.

Tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer to dismiss the error, then load a sheet of supplied paper or A4/Letter-sized Canon Matte Photo Paper MP-101 with the print side (whiter side) face up in the rear tray.
-
Print head nozzles are clogged.
-
Tap RESUME/CANCEL to dismiss the error, and print the nozzle check pattern to check the status of the print head.
-
The paper output slot is exposed to strong light.
-
Tap RESUME/CANCEL to dismiss the error, and then adjust your setup and/or the position of the printer so that the paper output slot is not exposed directly to strong light. If the problem continues after print head alignment, tap RESUME/CANCEL button to dismiss the error, and then perform a manual print head alignment.

The battery is low.

Connect the supplied universal AC adapter and charge the battery.

For details on the charge level indication of the battery, refer to its instruction manual.

Confirm how the ink lamps light or flash, and then take the appropriate action based on the error.

If this doesn't solve the problem, replace the ink tank.

You may damage the printer if you print under the current condition.

If you want to continue in this condition, you need to turn of the function for ink level detection. Press and hold the RESUME/CANCEL button for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.

From now on the printer will keep the ink level detection turned off. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble that are cause by continued use under the out of ink condition.
If the ink level function is disabled, the ink tank is displayed in gray on the printer status monitor (Windows) and Canon IJ Printer Utility (Mac®).

Replace the ink tank and close the print head cover.

You may damage the printer if you print with an ink tank that was once empty.
