Live View Shooting (Photos) with the Default Settings (EOS REBEL T5/EOS 1200D)

Solution

You can shoot while viewing the picture on the cameras LCD monitor. This is called "Live View shooting". Live View shooting is effective for still subjects which do not move.
This page describes how to shoot still photos using the Live View function in default settings.
For details on how to change settings to enable Live View shooting, please refer to the Related information section at the end of this page.
IMPORTANT
If you handhold the camera and shoot while viewing the LCD monitor, camera shake can cause blurred images. Using a tripod is recommended.

1. Set the camera's power switch to <ON>.

2. Set the lens focus mode switch to <AF>.

3. Press the < > (Live View Shooting) button. The Live View image will appear on the LCD monitor.
The Live View image will closely reflect the brightness level of the actual image you capture.

4. Select anAF point.

The AF point will appear. Press the <> keys to move the AF point to where you want to focus.
(It cannot go to the edges of the picture.)
Press <SET>> to return the AF point to the center. (If C.Fn-9 is set, hold down the < / > button and press <SET>.)

5. Press the shutter button halfway to focus on the subject.

When focus is achieved, the AF point will turn green and the beeper will sound.
If focus is not achieved, the AF point will turn orange.
If necessary, the built-in flash will be raised automatically.

6. Press the shutter button completely.

The picture will be taken and the captured image is displayed on the LCD monitor.
After the image review ends, the camera will return to Live View shooting automatically.

7. Press the < > (Live View Shooting) button to end the Live View shooting.
CAUTION
Do not point the camera toward an intense light source, such as the sun on a sunny day or an intense artificial light source. Doing so may damage the image sensor or the cameras components.
NOTE
When flash is used, there will be two shutter sounds, but only one shot will be taken. Also, the time to take the picture after you press the shutter button completely will be slightly longer than with viewfinder shooting.
The images field of view is approx. 100% (when the image-recording quality is set to JPEG (Large/Fine)).
The metering mode will be fixed to evaluative metering for Live View shooting.
In Creative Zone modes, you can check the depth of field by setting [9: Assign SET button] under [ : Custom Functions (C.Fn)] to [4: Depth-of-field preview].
During continuous shooting, the exposure set for the first shot will also be applied to subsequent shots.
