Solution

Examining the Nozzle Check Pattern

Examine the nozzle check pattern, and clean the print head if necessary.

Check if there are horizontal streaks in the pattern (1) and pattern (2).

(A) Number of sheets printed so far

 

If there are horizontal streaks in the pattern (1):

Cleaning the nozzles of the ink group 1 (PC, Y, M, R, or PM) is required.

Select the ink group to clean using the computer.

(B) Good

(C) Bad (horizontal streaks are present)

 

If there are horizontal streaks in the pattern (2):

Cleaning the nozzles of the ink group 2 (GY, PBK, C, CO, or MBK) is required.

Select the ink group to clean using the computer.

 Note

 Because CO ink is colorless, its pattern is printed over the MBK ink pattern. Check for horizontal streaks (D) in the dark gray bands of the pattern.

 

If there are horizontal streaks in the pattern (1) and pattern (2):

Cleaning the nozzles of all ink colors is required.

 Note

 The total number of sheets printed so far is shown in increments of 50 sheets on the printout of the nozzle check pattern.
