Description

 Understand and resolve when the orange alarm lamp flashes on your PIXMA PRO-10.

Solution

When an error occurs you will see flashing lights on your printer panel. Based on the error, a support code (error number) and a message may also display on your computer screen.

The lights on your printer may flash in 2 distinct ways:

  1. Repeatedly orange: If so, count the number of flashes and refer to Table 1 below.

(A) Note the number of flashes.

(B) Flashes repeatedly.

  1. Flashes alternately: If so, count the number of flashes and refer to the Table 2 below.

Printer is out of paper.

The disc tray is not attached.

Paper does not feed.

  • Reload paper in the cassette or the manual feed tray and tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer.

  • When you print on printable discs (BD/DVD/CD, etc.), use the disc tray supplied with this printer ("K" is on the upper side). Place a printable disc on the disc tray, attach the disc tray to the printer, then tap RESUME/CANCEL.

Paper output tray is closed.

Feed slot cover is opened.

Manual feed tray is in the paper jam clearing position.

Cannot print on a printable disc.

Paper jams.

  • If the paper output tray is closed, open it. The printer resumes printing.

  • If the feed slot cover is opened, close the cover slowly and tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer.

  • If the rear tray is open before you load paper on the manual feed tray, close the rear tray slowly, tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer, then load paper.

  • When you start printing on a printable disc, make sure that the paper is removed from the manual feed tray, then tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer.

 If the error remains, paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper in the printer, and then tap the RESUME/CANCEL on the printer.

The ink tank is not installed.

Ink tank is not installed properly.

Ink may have run out.

  • Install the ink tank.

  • If the lamp on the ink tank is not lit, the ink tank may not be installed properly. Install an appropriate ink tank.

  • Ink may have run out. (The lamp on the ink tank flashes.)

  • If printing is in progress, stop printing, replace the ink tank, then print again.

 If printing is in progress and you want to finish the task, tap RESUME/CANCEL with the ink tank installed. Then printing can continue under the ink out condition. Replace the empty ink tank as soon as you finish. The printer may be damaged if printing continues under the ink out condition.

Print head is not installed.

Print head is defective.

  • Install the print head.

  • If the print head is already installed, remove the print head and reinstall it.

  • If the error still isn't resolved, the print head may be damaged. Contact the service center.

The inner cover (the cover of the disc tray) is opened or closed.

  • If the inner cover (the cover of the disc tray) is open while printing other than disc label printing is in progress, close the inner cover, then tap RESUME/CANCEL.

  • Before you start printing on canvas paper, you need to open the inner cover once, then tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer. When you start printing, close the inner cover, then tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer.

  • If the inner cover is closed when you start disc label printing, open the inner cover, place the disc in the tray, then tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer.

  • When you start printing on paper, close the inner cover, then tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer.

 Don't open or close the inner cover while printing is in progress, as this can damage the printer.

Ink tank is not installed in the correct position.

  • If the ink lamp is flashing, more than one ink tanks of the same color is installed.

  • Confirm that the ink tanks are installed in the appropriate positions.

Ink absorber is almost full.

  • The printer has a built-in ink absorber to hold the ink used when print head cleaning.

  • Tap RESUME/CANCEL to continue printing. Service will soon be required.

The digital camera or digital video camcorder connected is not compatible with this printer.

  • Check the device connected to the printer. Printing photos directly is possible only with a PictBridge compliant device.

The printer has not received a response from the digital camera.

  • A communication time out occurs if an operation takes too long or if it takes too much time to send data. This may cancel printing. In such cases, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.

  • When printing from a PictBridge compliant device, based on the model or brand of your device, you may have to select a PictBridge compliant print mode on the device before you connect it to the printer. You may also have to turn on your device or select Play mode manually after you connect the device to the printer. Perform necessary operations before you connect your device. Please refer to its instruction manual.

  • If the error isn't resolved, check to see if you can print another photograph.

Eleven (11)

The page size setting does not match the size of the paper loaded in the printer.

Automatic print head alignment failed.

​The paper output slot is exposed to strong light.

  1. When you perform an ordinary print job:

    • Tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer to clear the error. Then check the page size setting in the page setup sheet in the printer driver and load paper that is the same size as the setting and try printing again.

    • Set the printer not to detect the width of the paper with the printer driver.

    • To set the printer driver not to detect the width of the paper, open the printer driver setup window, and in custom settings under the maintenance sheet, clear the Detect paper width check box, and then tap OK.

    • Select the Detect paper width check box again once printing is complete, then tap OK.

  2. When you perform an automatic print head alignment:

    • Print head nozzles are clogged.

    • Tap RESUME/CANCEL to dismiss the error, and print the nozzle check pattern to check the status of the print head.

    • Paper of size other than A4 or Letter is loaded in the rear tray.

    • Tap RESUME/CANCEL to dismiss the error, then load two sheets of A4/Letter-sized plain paper on the rear tray with the printing side (whiter side) face up.

    • For automatic print head alignment, always load paper in the rear tray.

    • Tap RESUME/CANCEL to dismiss the error, and then adjust your operating environment and/or the position of the printer so that the paper output slot is not exposed directly to strong light.

    • If the problem continues after print head alignment, tap RESUME/CANCEL to dismiss the error, and then perform manual print head alignment.

  3. When printing the nozzle check pattern or performing manual print head alignment:

    • Other than A4/Letter-sized paper is loaded.

    • Tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer to clear the error, and load A4/Letter-sized paper in the rear tray. Run the manual print head alignment again.

    • Make sure to set the paper in the rear tray.

The ink tank has been replaced while printing.

Cannot print the contents on CREATIVE PARK PREMIUM.

  • Tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer to clear the error, then resume printing.

  • When you print the contents on CREATIVE PARK PREMIUM, confirm the message on the computer screen, make sure that genuine Canon ink tanks are installed properly for all colors, then start printing again.

  • Printing can't be completed because the ink tank may not be installed properly or may not be compatible with this printer.

  • If the lamp on the ink tank is off, replace the ink tank.

Printer detected ink out condition.

  • If printing is in progress, stop printing, replace the ink tank, and print again.

  • To avoid printing troubles such as the mixing of inks, this printer is designed to stop printing by flashing the alarm lamp orange seventeen times when the remaining ink level in an ink tank goes under the amount of ink required to maintain printer and print quality.

  • ​If multiple ink lamps are flashing, check how fast they flash.

    • Fast flashing (at about one second interval) indicates the ink is empty.

    • Slow flashing (at about three second interval) indicates ink is low.

Eighteen (18)

Printer detected ink out condition.

  • If the lamp on the ink tank flashes, stop printing, replace the ink tank and then print again.

  • An ink tank that was once empty is installed.

  • Printing under the ink out condition may cause the printing trouble such as the mixing of inks, or a printer malfunction.

  • If you want to continue printing, you need to turn off the remaining ink level detection function. To release this function, press and hold the printer's RESUME/CANCEL button for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.

 From here on, the printer will keep the function turned off in its memory. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble which may be caused by continuation of printing or refilling of ink.

  • If multiple ink lamps are flashing, check how fast they flash.
    • Fast flashing (one second intervals) indicates the ink is empty.
    • Slow flashing (three second intervals) indicates the ink is low. If you turned off the remaining ink level detection function, the remaining ink level doesn't display correctly on the printer status monitor.

An unsupported USB hub is connected.

  • If a PictBridge compliant device is connected via a USB hub, remove the hub and connect it directly to the printer.

  • Cancel printing, and turn off the printer. Then clear the jammed paper or protective material that prevents the print head holder from moving, and turn on the printer again.

 Be careful not to touch the components inside the printer. The printer may not print out properly if you touch it.
