When a printer error occurs, the Alarm lamp flashes orange as shown below. The number of flashes indicates the type of error that has occurred. Count the flashes and take the appropriate action to correct the error.

If the POWER lamp flashes and the Alarm lamp flashes orange alternately, it may be possible that an error requiring you to contact the service center has occurred.

Support Code=1000, 1001, 1002, 1006 / Number of flashes = Two flashes: Printer is out of paper./The disc tray is not attached./Paper does not feed.

 

Reload paper in the cassette or the manual feed tray and press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer.
When printing on printable discs (BD/DVD/CD, etc.), use the disc tray supplied with this printer ("K" is on the upper side). Place a printable disc on the disc tray, attach the disc tray to the printer, then press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

 

 

Support Code=1250, 1261, 1270, 1300, 1308 / Number of flashes = Three flashes: Paper output tray is closed./Feed slot cover is opened./Manual feed tray is in the paper jam clearing position./Cannot print on a printable disc./Paper jams.

 

  • If the paper output tray is closed, open it. The printer resumes printing.
  • If the feed slot cover is opened, close the cover slowly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer. The printer resumes printing.
  • If the rear tray is open before you load paper on the manual feed tray, close the rear tray slowly, press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer, then load paper.
  • When you start printing on a printable disc, make sure that the paper is removed from the manual feed tray, then press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer.
If the error still remains, paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper in the printer, and then press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer.

 

Paper Jams

Support Code=1600, 1660 / Number of flashes=Four flashes:The ink tank is not installed/Ink tank is not installed properly/Ink may have run out

 

  • The ink tank is not installed. Install the ink tank.
  • If the lamp on the ink tank is not lit, the ink tank may not be installed properly. Install an appropriate ink tank.
  • If the lamp on the ink tank is flashing, ink may have run out. Replacing the ink tank is recommended.
If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, press the printer's RESUME/CANCEL button with the ink tank installed. Then printing can continue. Replacing the ink tank is recommended after the printing. The printer may be damaged if printing is continued under the ink out condition.

 

Replacing an Ink Tank

Support Code=1401, 1403, 1405 / Number of flashes=Five flashes:Print head is not installed/Print head is defective

 

Install the print head.
If the print head is already installed, remove the print head once and then reinstall it.
If the error is still not resolved, the print head may be damaged. Service is required.

  • If the inner cover (the cover of the disc tray) is open while printing other than disc label printing is in progress, close the inner cover, then press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
  • Before you start printing on canvas paper, it is necessary to open the inner cover once. Open the inner cover, then press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer. When you start printing, close the inner cover, then press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer.
  • If the inner cover is closed when starting disc label printing, open the inner cover, place the disc tray, then press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer. When you start printing on paper, close the inner cover, then press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer. Do not open or close the inner cover while printing is in progress, as this can damage the printer.

Confirm that the ink tanks are installed in the appropriate positions.

 

Replacing an Ink Tank

The ink absorber is almost full.
The printer has a built-in ink absorber to hold the ink used during Print Head Cleaning.
Press the printer's RESUME/CANCEL button to continue printing. Service will soon be required.

Support Code=2001/ Number of flashes = Nine flashes: The digital camera or digital video camcorder connected is not compatible with this printer.

 

Check the device connected to the printer. Printing photos directly is possible only with a PictBridge compliant device.

 

 

Number of flashes = Nine flashes: The printer has not received a response from the digital camera.

 

A communication time out occurs if an operation takes too long or if it takes too much time to send data. This may cancel printing. In such cases, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
When printing from a PictBridge compliant device, depending on the model or brand of your device, you may have to select a PictBridge compliant print mode on the device before connecting it to the printer. You may also have to turn on your device or select Play mode manually after connecting the device to the printer. Perform necessary operations before connecting your device referring to its instruction manual.
If the error is not yet resolved, check if you can print another photograph.

 

 

Support Code=1062, 2500 / Number of flashes = Eleven flashes: The Page Size setting does not match the size of the paper loaded in the printer./Automatic Print Head Alignment failed.

 

When performing an ordinary print job:
  • Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error. Then check the Page Size setting in the Page Setup sheet in the printer driver and load paper that is the same size as the setting and try printing again.
  • Set the printer not to detect the width of the paper using the printer driver.
To set the printer driver not to detect the width of the paper, open the printer driver setup window, and in Custom Settings under the Maintenance sheet, clear the Detect paper width check box, and then click OK.
* Select the Detect paper width check box again once printing is complete, and then click OK.
When performing Automatic Print Head Alignment:
  • Print head nozzles are clogged.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to dismiss the error, and print the nozzle check pattern to check the status of the print head.
  • Paper of size other than A4 or Letter is loaded in the rear tray.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to dismiss the error, then load two sheets of A4/Letter-sized plain paper on the rear tray with the printing side (whiter side) facing UP.
For Automatic Print Head Alignment, always load paper in the rear tray.
  • The paper output slot is exposed to strong light.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to dismiss the error, and then adjust your operating environment and/or the position of the printer so that the paper output slot is not exposed directly to strong light.
After carrying out the above measures, if the problem continues after aligning the print head again, press the RESUME/CANCEL button to dismiss the error, and then perform Manual Print Head Alignment.
When printing the nozzle check pattern or performing Manual Print Head Alignment:
Other than A4/Letter-sized paper is loaded.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, and load A4/Letter-sized paper in the rear tray. Then try performing again.
When printing the nozzle check pattern or performing Manual Print Head Alignment, be sure to set the paper in the rear tray.

If the ink tank has been replaced during printing:
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, then resume printing.
If you are printing the contents on CREATIVE PARK PREMIUM:
You cannot print the contents on CREATIVE PARK PREMIUM.
When you print the contents on CREATIVE PARK PREMIUM, confirm the message on the computer screen, make sure that genuine Canon ink tanks are installed properly for all colors, then start printing again.

 

 

Support Code=1684, 1750 / Number of flashes = Fourteen flashes: Ink tank cannot be recognized.

 

The ink tank cannot be recognized.
Printing cannot be executed because the ink tank may not be installed properly or may not be compatible with this printer.
Install the appropriate ink tank.
If you want to cancel printing, press the printer's RESUME/CANCEL button.

 

Replacing an Ink Tank

Support Code =1410, 1411, 1412, 1413, 1414, 1415, 1416, 1417, 1418, 1419 / Number of flashes=Fifteen flashes:Ink tank cannot be recognized.

Replace the ink tank.

 

Replacing an Ink Tank

Support Code=1698/ Number of flashes=Seventeen flashes:Printer detected ink out condition.

 

Printer detected ink out condition (The lamp on the ink tank flashes).
If printing is in progress, stop printing, replace the ink tank, and then print again.
To avoid printing troubles such as the mixing of inks, this printer is designed to stop printing by flashing the Alarm lamp orange seventeen times when the remaining ink level in an ink tank goes under the amount of ink required to maintain printer and print quality.
REFERENCE
If multiple ink lamps are flashing, check how fast they flash.
Fast flashing (at about one second interval) indicates the ink is empty. Slow flashing (at about three second interval) indicates ink is low.

 

 

Support Code=1699 / Number of flashes=Eighteen flashes:Printer detected ink out condition.

 

Printer detected ink out condition (The lamp on the ink tank flashes).
Stop printing, replace the ink tank, and then print again. Be sure to replace the empty ink tank before resuming printing.
An ink tank that was once empty is installed.
Printing under the ink out condition may cause the printing trouble such as the mixing of inks, or a printer malfunction.
If you want to continue printing, you need to release the function for detecting the remaining ink level. To release this function, press and hold the printer's RESUME/CANCEL button for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.*
* With this operation, releasing the function for detecting the remaining ink level is memorized. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble which may be caused by continuation of printing or refilling of ink.
REFERENCE
  • If multiple ink lamps are flashing, check how fast they flash. Fast flashing (at about one second interval) indicates the ink is empty. Slow flashing (at about three second interval) indicates ink is low.

The Print Head Lock Lever may not lock in place.
Open the printers Top Cover and see where the print head holder is.
If the print head holder is in the center, confirm that the Print Head Lock Lever is lowered completely.

If the error still occurs, or if the print head holder is not in the center, stop printing and turn off the printer. Then remove any obstacles that block a proper movement of the print head holder and turn on the printer again.

  • Be careful not to touch the components inside the printer. The printer may not print out properly if you touch it.
  • If the problem is not resolved, service is required.
