Print Nozzle Check Pattern / Self Test from unit

Instructions to print the nozzle check directly from the printer.  By printing a nozzle check pattern, you can check whether ink ejects normally from the print head nozzles.

  1. Load letter sized plain paper in the sheet feeder or cassette.

  2. Select the appropriate paper feed source.

Note:  The example shown has the sheet feeder as the paper feed source.

  3. Press and hold the <Resume/Cancel> button.

  4. When the Power lamp blinks twice, release the button.

Note:  The Power lamp blinks and the nozzle check pattern will be printed. (After the printer initializes, it will take about 10 seconds until printing is completed.)

  5. Examine the nozzle check pattern output.  Click here to see examples of a correct nozzle pattern.  Click here to see examples of an incorrect nozzle pattern.

If the output is correct, the print head is normal.

If the output is incorrect, perform the following steps:

  1. Perform a deep print head cleaning

  2. Print the nozzle check pattern again

  3. If any lines or colors are missing from the nozzle check pattern perform two more deep print head cleanings

Caution:  Avoid performing more than three deep cleanings in a twenty-four hour period.

  4. Print the nozzle check pattern again

If the nozzle check pattern is still incorrect, service may be required.
