Learn how to set your printer as the default on a Mac computer.

Solution

When you set a printer as the default, all print jobs automatically route to that printer. You can change the default at any time. You can also select a different printer for any individual print job.


Set a printer as the default

  1. Confirm that your printer is connected and turned on.

  2. On the Apple menu, select System Preferences.

  3. Select Printers & Scanners or Print & Scan, depending on which version of macOS® is installed.

  4. Select the printer to be used as default from the Default Printer drop-down.

    Note If duplicate copies of the printer exist in the printers list, you can delete them. To delete the previous copies, select the printer from the list and press the [-minus button below the list.
