Sending from an MX310 using a calling (credit) card

Solution

Sending Using a Calling Card

A calling (or credit) card can be used when sending faxes locally, long distance or overseas. Please see the back of the card for instructions on the exact dialing sequence. For instance, dial the toll free number provided by the vendor just as you would to make a regular phone call. If you are prompted to enter the calling card, do so - as you normally would. If a PIN (access code) has to be entered before the fax number is dialed, do so.

Here is an example of the typical number strings used when dialing using a credit card.

Type: Number to dial: Digits:
800 Number 18005551212 11
Calling Card 4011343339849402 16
Access Code 52364 5
Long distance number 15163283111 11

Tips to help you send a fax using a calling (credit) card.

  1. Connect a telephone to the fax machine.
    1. Connect a line cord from the telephone wall jack to the [L] jack (item <1>) on the fax machine.

    2. Remove the telephone connector cap to connect an external device. (See item <2> in the above illustration.)
    3. Connect a line cord from the extension telephone port on the fax machine (item <3>) to an external telephone.

  2. To send a fax using a credit card, it is recommended to dial using the attached telephone.

    1. Press the <FAX> button on the operator panel.
    2. Open the Document Tray.

    3. Insert the documents face-up on the ADF.

    4. Pick up the handset of the attached telephone and confirm you hear a dial tone.
    5. Dial your calling card's 800 (866, 888, etc.) number on the attached telephone.
    6. When you are prompted to enter your calling or credit card number, dial it on the attached phone.
    7. If you are prompted to enter an access code, dial them on the phone.
    8. When prompted to enter the fax number, again, dial the number on the phone.
    9. When you hear the remote fax machine's high-pitched receive tones, press <Color> to send a color fax or <Black> to send a black and white fax. The audio signal heard from the handset will be cut off.
    10. Hang up the handset.
    11. When the transaction is complete, the fax machine will return to standby mode.
