Editing images in ZoomBrowser EX ver. 5.x

This section explains the procedures for editing images displayed in the Viewer Window. To bring an image into the Viewer Window for editing, double-click on the thumbnail image.

IMPORTANT

  • RAW images and movies cannot be edited in the Viewer Window.

  • To bring an image into the Viewer Window for editing, double-click on the thumbnail.

You can perform the following editing operations in ZoomBrowser EX:

Red Eye Correction
Use this to correct images in which people's eyes appear red.

Image Correction
You can alter an image by adjusting the brightness, saturation, contrast and RGB (red, green, blue) highlights and shadows.

Trim (Crop)
This function trims portions of images. Use it to cut away (or crop) unwanted parts of the image.

Edit with External Image Editor
You can bring the image into a third party image editor for more advanced editing functions. A third party (non-Canon) image editor program must be installed on the PC.

Red Eye Correction

This corrects the red portion of eyes that appear red.

Auto Mode

  1. Click (Edit) in the Viewer Window and select [Red Eye Correction] to open the red eye correction window.
    -You can also start the red eye correction procedure by clicking the [Edit] menu in the Viewer Window and selecting [Red Eye Correction].



  2. Select [Auto Mode] and click [Start].
    -
    Red eyes will automatically be corrected.



  3. Click [OK] when it finishes correcting.
    -
    Click [Undo All] to restore the image to its pre-correction state.
    -Click [Undo] to cancel the action immediately preceding.
    -Click [Redo] to reinstate an action canceled with the Undo button.



When the Viewer Window is closed after editing an image, the following message will display:

  • If you would like to replace the original image with the modified one, click [Yes].

  • If you would like to exit the Viewer Window without saving the modified image, click [No].

  • If you would like to save the modfied image, and retain the original image, click [Cancel] and follow the procedure for saving the file under a different name.



Manual Mode

  1. Click (Edit) in the Viewer Window and select [Red Eye Correction] to open the red eye correction window.
    -You can also start the red eye correction procedure by clicking the [Edit] menu in the Viewer Window and selecting [Red Eye Correction].



  2. Select [Manual Mode], then move the mouse cursor over the red eye portion and click the relevant portion.
It will probably be considerably easier for most people if the Red Eye Correction window is maximized and the (magnifier tool) is used to zoom in to the portion of the image being worked on. After zooming in, the (red eye correction tool icon) must be clicked. These tools are located at the bottom left corner of the Red Eye Correction window.


3. Click [OK] when it finishes correcting.

When the Viewer Window is closed after editing an image, the following message will display:

  • If you would like to replace the original image with the modified one, click [Yes].

  • If you would like to exit the Viewer Window without saving the modified image, click [No].

  • If you would like to save the modfied image, and retain the original image, click [Cancel] and follow the procedure for saving the file under a different name.

Image Correction

This adjusts the brightness, saturation, contrast and RGB (red, green, blue) highlights and shadows.

  1. Click (Edit) in the Viewer Window and select [Image Correction].
    -
    You can also start the image correction procedure by clicking the [Edit] menu in the Viewer Window and selecting [Image Correction].



  2. To adjest the Brightness, Color Saturation and Contrast, use the [Color Adjustment] tab. To adjust the levels of Red, Green, and Blue, click on the [RGB Adjustment] tab. Use the sliders to adjust the attributes and click [OK] when you are finished.



Trim (Crop) Image

Use this to delete unnecessary portions of the image and leave only the necessary portions.

  1. Click (Edit) in the Viewer Window and select [Trim] to open the Trim Image window.
    -
    You can also start the trimming procedure by clicking the [Edit] menu in the Viewer Window and selecting [Trim].



  2. Position the mouse pointer over the image and drag it to select the trimming area.
    - Hold down the left mouse button and draw a square around the part of the image you would like to keep. A dotted-lined box will appear. Dragging the corner or center points of this box will allow you to make the box larger or smaller.

  3. Click [Trim Image].



  4. Check the trimmed image and click [OK].



When the Viewer Window is closed after editing an image, the following message will display:

  • If you would like to replace the original image with the modified one, click [Yes].

  • If you would like to exit the Viewer Window without saving the modified image, click [No].

  • If you would like to save the modfied image, and retain the original image, click [Cancel] and follow the procedure for saving the file under a different name.

Saving under a Different Name

You can leave the original image file untouched and save the edited image in a new file under a different name. After editing the original, click the [File] menu in the Viewer Window and select [Save As] to open the Save dialog. Set the file name, format and image quality and click [Save].

Edit with External Image Editor

This section explains how to start other image editing programs to edit an image selected in ZoomBrowser EX.

REFERENCE
  • If you installed the image editing program included with your product (contained on the Solution Disk), it should automatically be registered in the ZoomBrowser EX menu.
  • To register other programs, click (Edit) in the Viewer Window and select [Edit Image with External Tool], followed by [Manage List]. Click [Add] and browse to the application (.exe) files to register the programs.

How to start other image editing programs

  1. Click (Edit) in the Viewer Window, select [Edit with External Image Editor] and select an editing program from the submenu.
    -
    You can also edit images by clicking [Edit] in the Task Area of the Main Window, followed by [Edit Image] and [2. Select Image Editing Tool], and selecting [Edit with external image editor].



The image editing program will start and open the selected image in it.
