Scanning an Image from an Application

Solution

Scanning an Image from an Application

You can scan an image from a TWAIN- or WIA- (Windows 98/2000: a TWAIN-) compliant application and use the image in that application. This procedure varies depending on the application. The following is only one example. For the correct procedure, refer to the documentation of the application you are using.

  1. Place the document face down on the platen glass or load it face up in the ADF.

    • When scanning with the WIA driver, place the document on the platen glass.
    • Scanning the document using the platen glass is recommended.

  2. Open the application from which you will scan the document.

  3. Select the command to scan.
In most cases, click [Import] or [Acquire Image] etc. from the [File] menu. If only one scanner driver is installed in your computer, step 4 will be skipped.

  4. Select the scanner driver to be used, then click [OK].

  5. Specify the scanner settings, then click [Scan].
When scanning is completed, the scanned image will appear in the application's display area.

  6. From the [File] menu, click [Properties]. (Windows 98/Me/2000: Click [Properties].)
You can also open the scanner properties dialog box by right-clicking the corresponding scanner driver icon and selecting [Properties] from the pop-up menu. (Only for Windows XP).

  7. Specify an action for [SCAN].

    On Windows Me/XP:
Select the [Events] tab, select [Scan] in the [Select an event] pull-down list, select the operation for [SCAN] in [Actions], then click [OK].

    On Windows 98/2000:
Select the [Events] tab, select [Scan Button] in the [Scanner events] pull-down list, select the operation for [SCAN] in [Send to this application], then click [OK].

  8. Click [OK].

  9. Restart your computer. (Only for Windows Me/2000.)

If the settings you specified in the scanner property dialog box do not work immediately, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, or restart your computer.
