Scanning with the WIA Driver (Windows Me/XP only)



When using the WIA driver, the ADF is not available for scanning.


With the [Scanners and Camera Wizard] dialog box open, follow this procedure below:

  1. Click [Next].



  2. Select a picture type.


    You can select from the following:
    -[Color picture]
    -[Grayscale picture]
    -[Black and white picture or text]
    -[Custom] (Windows Me: [Custom Settings])


    When selecting [Custom], click [Custom settings] (Windows Me: When selecting [Custom Settings], click [Adjust the quality of the scanned picture]) to specify the settings in detail in the [Properties] (Windows Me: [Advanced Properties]) dialog box.


  3. Click [Preview], then drag to specify the scanned area.


  4. Click [Next].


  5. Specify a name, a file format, and the location for saving the group of pictures.


    Enter a name for the group of pictures.

    When you save more than one picture in the same location, sequential numbers are automatically added at the ends of file names (e.g. numbers 001, 002, ... are added from the second picture on.)
    Select a file format for the pictures.

    You can select from the following:
    -[BMP (Bitmap Image)]
    -[JPG (JPEG Image)]
    -[TIF (TIF Image)]
    -[PNG (PNG Image)] (Only for Windows XP)
    Select the location where you want to save the pictures.
    To change the location, click [Browse], select the new location, then click [OK].


  6. Click [Next] (Windows Me: [Finish]).
    The scanning starts.

    On Windows Me:
    The scanning procedure is completed. The location selected in step 5 will appear.


    To cancel scanning, click [Cancel].


  7. Click [Next]. (Only for Windows XP.)

    If you want to publish these pictures to a Web site or order printouts online, select the corresponding option.


  8. Click [Finish]. (Only in Windows XP.)

    The location selected in step 5 will appear.





Properties

The following screen shows the Advanced Properties tab in Windows XP.

[Brightness] Specifies the brightness (-60 to 60%). (Only for color or grayscale scanning.)


You can also adjust the brightness in PageManager or OmniPage if it is not specified sufficiently in this tab.
[Contrast] Specifies the contrast (-35 to 35%). (Only for color or grayscale scanning.)


You can also adjust the contrast in PageManager or OmniPage if it is not specified sufficiently in this dialog box.
[Resolution (DPI)] Selects the scanning resolution in dot per inch. Available resolutions are: [75], [100], [150], [200], [300], and [600] dpi.


You can enter the values of resolution listed above in the edit box directly. If you enter an invalid value, the error message will appear and the resolution will be corrected to the closest one.
[Picture Type] Selects the scanning color type ([Color picture], [Grayscale picture], or [Black and white picture or text]).
[Reset] Resets all the current settings to their default values.
