Removal of "Other Device" from Windows Device Manager

Windows 98/ME Directions

Windows 2000/XP Directions

Check the Device Manager to see if the camera is listed. Follow the steps below for the appropriate operating system.

Windows 98/ME

  1. Connect the camera to the computer and make sure it is turned on to the connection mode.

  2. Cancel or close any windows or messages that pop up.

  3. Right click on your My Computer icon and select 'Properties'.


  4. Click on the tab labeled Device Manager.


  5. Look for the camera or an 'Unknown Device' under 'Imaging Devices', 'Other Devices', or 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers'.


  6. Click once on the camera listing to highlight it and click on 'Remove'. Answer yes when Windows asks to confirm device removal. After removal disconnect the camera and proceed with installation as normal.


Windows 2000/XP

  1. Connect the camera to the computer and turn the camera on to its connection mode.

  2. Cancel or close any windows or messages that appear.

  3. From your desktop, right click on the My Computer icon.


  4. Select 'Properties'.


  5. In the System Properties window, click on Hardware.


  6. Click on 'Device Manager'.


  7. Look for the camera or an 'Unknown Device' under 'Imaging Devices', 'Other Devices', or 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers'.


  8. Right click on the camera model and select 'Uninstall'. After removal disconnect the camera and proceed with normal installation.
