Removal of Device from Windows Device Manager

Check the Device Manager to see if the camcorder is listed. Follow the steps below for the appropriate operating system.
Windows 98/ME
- Connect the camcorder's USB cable to the computer's USB port and make sure the POWER switch is set to PLAY (VCR) and the TAPE/CARD switch is set to CARD.
- Cancel or close any windows or messages that pop up.
- Right click on your My Computer icon and select 'Properties'.

- Click on the tab labeled Device Manager.

- Look for the camcorder or an 'Unknown Device' under 'Imaging Devices', 'Other Devices', or 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers'.

- Click once on the camcorder listing to highlight it and click on 'Remove' below. Answer YES when Windows asks to confirm device removal. After removal, disconnect the camcorder, verify that the proper driver is installed and that no other conflicting devices are connected. Reconnect the camcorder, and Windows should install the camcorder properly.
Windows 2000/XP
- Connect the camcorder to the computer and make sure the POWER switch is set to PLAY (VCR) and the TAPE/CARD switch is set to CARD.
- Cancel or close any windows or messages that appear.
- From your desktop or Start menu, right click on My Computer.

- Select 'Properties'.

- On the System Properties window, click on Hardware.

- Click on the 'Device Manager' button.

- Look for the camcorder or an 'Unknown Device' under 'Imaging Devices', 'Other Devices', or 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers'.

- Right click on the camcorder model and select 'Uninstall'. On the 'Confirm Device Removal' window, click OK. After removal, disconnect the camcorder, verify that the proper driver is installed (Windows 2000 only) and that no other conflicting devices are connected. Reconnect the camcorder, and Windows should install the camcorder properly.
