Transferring Memory Card Images to a Computer Optura S1

With the supplied USB cable and Digital Video Software, you can browse and archive images or arrange still images for printout. For details, refer to the Digital Video Software Instruction Manual.

Users of Windows OS can also transfer images to the computer by simply pressing the (print/share) button.

  • Be sure to install the Digital Video Software before you connect the camcorder to the computer.
  • Make sure the camcorder is being powered using the power adapter before connecting it to a computer.
  • Connect the USB cable directly to one of the computer's main USB ports. The interface may not function correctly if the camcorder is connected via a USB hub.
  • The connection may not operate correctly if you are using other USB devices, excluding USB mice or keyboards, at the same time. If this occurs, disconnect the other devices from the computer and try reconnecting the camcorder.
  • Do not connect two or more camcorders to the computer. The camcorders may not operate normally.
  • Never allow the computer to go into standby (sleep) mode while a camcorder is connected via the USB interface.

  1. Install the supplied Digital Video Software.
    - For more information, see "Installing the Digital Video Software."

  2. Insert a memory card containing images into the camcorder.

  3. Connect the power adapter to the camcorder. (recommended)

  4. Set the camcorder to mode.

  5. Connect the camcorder to the computer using the USB cable.
    - The USB terminal on the Optura S1 is located below the cassette compartment behind a rubber cover.

Refer to your computer manual for the location of the computer's USB ports.

  6. Set the auto-launch setting in Canon Utilities ZoomBrowser EX.
    - The first time you connect the camcorder to the computer, you need to install the software and set the auto-launch setting. From the second time on, you only need to connect the camcorder to the computer to transfer images.
  • Do not disconnect the USB cable, open the memory card cover, remove the memory card, change the position of the TAPE/CARD switch or turn off the camcorder and computer while data is being transferred to the computer (while the camcorder's card access indicator is flashing). Doing so may damage the memory card's data.
  • Operation may not work correctly depending on the software and the specifications/settings of your computer.
  • The image files on your memory card and the image files saved on the hard disk drive of your computer are valuable, original data files. If you wish to use image files on your computer, make copies of them first, and use the copied file, retaining the original.
  • Make sure that camcorder and computer are not connected with a DV cable before connecting the camcorder to the computer using the USB cable. Otherwise, the computer may not operate properly.

  • We recommend powering the camcorder from a household power source while it is connected to the computer.
  • Refer also to the computer instruction manual.
  • Users of Windows XP and Mac OS X:
    • Your camcorder is equipped with the standard Picture Transfer Protocol  (PTP) allowing you to download still images (JPEG only) by simply connecting the camcorder to a computer via USB cable without installing the software from the DIGITAL VIDEO SOLUTION DISK.
