Printing Data via Bluetooth Communication (Mac)

Preparation

In order to print via Bluetooth communication with a Macintosh  computer, the following system requirements must be satisfied.

Computer A Macintosh with an Apple Bluetooth module or a Macintosh attached D-LINK DBT-120 USB Bluetooth rev.B
OS Mac OS X v.10.3.3 or later 
 

In order to connect the Bluetooth unit and print via Bluetooth communication, the following steps are required.

STEP 1

Check that the Bluetooth unit is properly attached to the printer.
STEP 2

Install the printer driver.

STEP 3

Check the device name on the LCD.

STEP 4

Register the printer as a Bluetooth device.

 When using Windows XP :

Authenticate the printer through a Bluetooth device in the control panel on Windows XP.

When using a Toshiba Windows XP computer:

Authenticate the printer using Bluetooth Settings*.

* When the computer which builds in a Bluetooth module manufactured by Toshiba Corp., or the program attached to the Bluetooth adapter of the option manufactured by Toshiba is used, the computer can register a printer easily.

Bluetooth Settings can be started by clicking Start and selecting All Programs, TOSHIBA, Bluetooth, and Bluetooth Settings.

For details on Bluetooth Settings, refer to your computer's operation manual.

The operations may vary depending on your operating program. In this case, refer to your computer's operation manual.

Setting up the Printer

This section describes the procedures for checking the settings of the Bluetooth unit on the LCD of the printer in preparation for Bluetooth printing.

The LCD screens in this section refer to the iP6600D equipped with graphic LCD.

1. Ensure that the printer is turned on, and attach the Bluetooth unit.

Note: When the Bluetooth unit is properly attached to the printer, the POWER lamp flashes two times.

2. Display the Bluetooth settings screen on the LCD


For instructions on displaying the Bluetooth settings click  iP6210D  or iP6220D / iP6600D

 

3. Select Device name using the cursor buttons.

The Device name screen appears.

 

Note: If the Bluetooth settings screen does not appear on the LCD, the Bluetooth unit may not be attached correctly. Attach the Bluetooth unit correctly. If the Bluetooth settings screen still does not appear, the Bluetooth unit may be faulty. In this case, service is required

4. Check the device name.

The device name is necessary to register the printer as a Bluetooth device. Be sure to note the device name.

Note: If multiple printer units with the same model name are connected to the system, assigning a different device name to each printer is recommended for easy identification of the printer you will use.

After checking the device name, press the <OK> button on the printer.

After checking the Bluetooth settings, register the printer on your computer.

Registering the Printer

 

Register the printer as a Bluetooth device using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant.

 

1. Click the Bluetooth icon on the menu bar and then select 'Set up Bluetooth Device'.

The Bluetooth Setup Assistant starts.

If the Bluetooth icon does not exist on the menu bar, select 'Applications' from the Go menu, double-click the 'Utilities' folder, and then the 'Bluetooth Setup Assistant' icon.

 

2. Click 'Continue'.

 

3. Select 'Printer', then click 'Continue'.

 

4. Select the same device name as that you checked under Setting up the Printer , then click 'Continue'.

 

5. Click 'Continue'.

 

Note: If a passkey has been set in the printer, the message below appears. Enter the passkey set on the LCD and click 'Pair'.

 

6. Click 'Quit'.

 

7. Select 'Applications' from the Go menu, double-click the 'Utilities' folder, and then 'Printer Setup Utility' icon to check whether the printer name selected in Step 4 is registered in the Printer List.

Note: If two or more printers are registered with the same name (Canon XXXXXX-X), leave one printer and delete all the rest. To set the newly registered printer as the default printer, select the printer on the Printer List, then click 'Make Default'. The printer will be selected when you open the Print dialog box.


Now, the settings for printing via Bluetooth communication are ready.

Attaching the Bluetooth unit (BU-20)

To enable printing with Bluetooth communication, you have to attach the Bluetooth unit (BU-20) to the printer.

Refer to the following procedures to attach the Bluetooth unit to the printer.

1. Turn on the printer.


2. Insert the Bluetooth unit into the direct print port.*

*iP6600D shown below.  Direct print port is in same location on other models.

Note: When the Bluetooth unit is attached to the printer properly, the Power lamp will flash twice.

Changing Bluetooth settings - iP6220D / iP6600D

Displaying the Bluetooth settings screen.

1. Press the Menu button.

2. Use the buttons to select Maintenance/settings and then press the <OK> button.

3. Use the buttons to select Device settings and then press the <OK> button.

4. Use the buttons to select Bluetooth settings and then press the <OK> button. The Bluetooth settings screen is displayed.

Changing the settings

1. Use the buttons to select the setting item you want to change.

2. Use the buttons to set the items you want to set and then press the <OK> button.

Settings

Device name: Select the device name of this printer displayd on the screen of the Bluetooth device.
Access refusal: Selecting ON will disable the search for this printer from Bluetooth devices.
Security: Selecting Enable will enable a passkey. Setting a passkey will prevent incorrect access from other Bluetooth devices.
Passkey: You can change the passkey. The passkey refers to an identification number to be determined. It is used to prevent incorrect access from other Bluetooth devices.

The initial value is set to "0000".
After you change pass key, you are required to enter new passkey again. Enter new passkey to the Bluetooth device

1. Press the <Configuration> button repeatedly to select 'BLUETOOTH SET' and then press the <OK> button.

Settings
