Explanation of the various Image Zone modes PowerShot A610 and A620

Solution

Using the Mode Dial (Image Zone) - PowerShot A610 & A620

The Image Zone shooting modes allow you to shoot using settings automatically selected by the camera which suit the conditions of the subject.

Selecting a Shooting Mode

  1. Set the shooting mode dial to the desired mode (). In the SCN and modes, use the or button () to select a shooting mode.

Shooting Modes

Portrait

Use this mode when you want the subject to appear sharp and the background to blur.

Movie

Use this mode to shoot movie clips. Shooting and sound recording starts simultaneously.

Landscape

Use this mode to shoot spacious landscape scenes.

Automatic

The camera automatically selects settings.

Night Scene

Use this mode to capture human subjects against the backdrop of an evening sky or night scene. The subject is illuminated with light from the flash while the backdrop is captured at a slow shutter speed.

SCN: Special Scene

Select from 8 scene modes to shoot with the most appropriate settings for the scene.

  • and Shooting Modes: Always use a tripod to prevent camera shake.
  • In , , or mode, the ISO speed may increase and cause noise in the image depending on the scene being shot.
  • In mode, shoot with the subject 1 m (3.3 ft.) or more from the end of the lens.

Tips for each function:

Portrait Mode

  • To best achieve the effect of the background gradually fading, compose the image so that the upper half of the subject's body fills most of the viewfinder or LCD monitor.
  • The background gets increasingly indistinct the more you adjust the focal length toward telephoto.

Landscape Mode

  • The icon (camera shake warning) may appear on the LCD monitor since slower shutter speeds are frequently used in this mode. If this happens, affix the camera to a tripod.

Night Scene Mode

  • The shutter speed slows down. Even if you use the flash, tell your subjects not to move for a few moments.
  • Using the mode in daylight will produce an effect similar to that of the mode.

Underwater Mode

  • To shoot underwater, install the camera in Waterproof Case WP-DC90 (sold separately).
  • We recommend you use Waterproof Case WP-DC90 (sold separately) for shooting at ski resorts or beaches.

SCN (Special Scene)

By simply selecting one of the following shooting modes, you can shoot with the most appropriate settings for the scene.

Night Snapshot
Allows you to take snapshots of people against twilight or night backgrounds by reducing the effects of camera shake even without using a tripod.

Kids&Pets
Allows you to capture subjects that move around, such as children and pets, without missing photo opportunities.

Indoor
Prevents camera shake and maintains the subject's true color when shooting under fluorescent or tungsten lighting.

Foliage
Shoots trees and leaves - such as new growth, autumn leaves or blossoms - in vivid colors.

Snow
Shoots without a blue tinge and without making people appear dark against a snowy background.

Beach
Shoots without making people appear dark near water or sand where reflected sunlight is strong.

Fireworks
Captures fireworks in the sky sharply and at optimal exposure.

Underwater
Appropriate for shooting images with Waterproof Case WP-DC90 (sold separately). This mode uses an optimal white balance setting to reduce bluish tones and record images with a natural hue. The exposure is regulated to use the flash as little as possible.

My Colors
Allows you to change the image colors easily with 9 modes.

Stitch Assist
Allows you to shoot overlapping images that can later be merged (stitched) to create one panoramic image on a computer.
