When an error has occurs, the error or message is displayed on the LCD. Take the appropriate action to clear the message.

Ink has run out.

U041

When canceling printing, press the <Stop/Reset> button.
To continue printing, press the <OK> button.
After printing is completed, replace the ink tank with a new one as soon as possible.
The machine may get damaged if the ink tank is not replaced and printing is continued.

The following ink tank cannot be recognized.

U140

U043

U150

The installed ink tank is not compatible with this printer.
Install the appropriate ink tank.

More than one ink tank of the following color is installed

U071

More than one ink tank is installed in an incorrect slot.
Refer to the color guide label on the print head lever to install them in the correct slot.

The remaining level of the following ink cannot be correctly detected.

U130

An ink tank that was once used or was refilled may be installed.
Replace the ink tank.

Although it is possible to continue printing by pressing the <Stop/Reset> button for more than five seconds, this operation will disable ink detection and the printer will not be able to detect the remaining ink level.
Please note that problems caused by ink refill are not covered under the printer's warranty.

Some ink tanks are not installed in place.

U072

Some ink tanks are not installed correctly.
Make sure a click is heard when installing the ink tanks.

This paper is not compatible with duplex printing.

The following papers are compatible with duplex printing: A4 / Letter / A5 / B5 / 5" x 7".
Press the <OK> button to eject the printed paper and resume printing from the front side of the next sheet.
Please note that the data which is supposed to be printed on the back side of the paper will not be printed if this error occurs.

Auto head align has failed.

Automatic print head alignment failed.
Press the <OK> button to clear the error.
Check the following list and repeat the automatic print head alignment procedure.

- Check if letter or A4-sized paper is loaded in the auto sheet feeder.
- Check if the paper output slot is not exposed to a strong light source.
- Print a nozzle check pattern to check the status of the print head.

If the problem continues, perform manual print head alignment.

Photo scan error. The photographs cannot be scanned.
Confirm that each photograph is at least 10 mm (0.4 inch) away from each other and scan them again.
Release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off and back on. Turn off the machine, open the document cover, and then release the scanner lock switch.

Incompatible device detected.

Communication with the connected camera is not possible.
Disconnect the cable from the camera and check the following items and try printing again.

1) Check if the camera is compatible with PictBridge or Canon Bubble Jet Direct.
If the camera is not PictBridge or Canon Bubble Jet Direct compatible, Camera Direct Printing is not possible.
2) Depending on the model or brand of your camera, you may have to select a print mode compliant with PictBridge before connecting the camera.
Perform necessary operations according to the instruction manual supplied with your camera.
3) A specified period of time may have elapsed without receiving a response from the digital camera.
Disconnect and reconnect the cable from the camera to refresh hardware detection.

The waste ink absorber is almost full.

Press the <OK> button to clear the error.
You can continue printing; however, when the waste ink absorber becomes full, you will need to contact the Canon Contact Center for assistance.

Waste ink absorber is a part inside the printer, which absorbs ink used in the cleaning operations, etc.

Print head is not installed./The type of print head is incorrect.

If the print head is not installed, install it and then perform the print head alignment.
If the print head is already installed, remove the print head and reinstall it.

The card is currently write-enabled.

Since the memory card is currently write-enabled, printing is not possible.
Set the memory card to read-only mode.

There are no photos in memory card.

Images stored in the memory card may be not supported by the printer.
To print images that are not supported by the printer, print the images from a computer.
- Photo data edited/processed from a computer
- Image with a file format other than JPEG or TIFF
- Images with a file name which includes double-byte characters
- Images stored in the fourth or higher layer folder (sub-folder)

There is no paper.

If paper is not set, set paper and press the <OK> button. When paper is installed, check each item try printing again.

1. Check if recommended paper is loaded.
2. Verify paper is loaded properly and in the correct paper source.
3. If printing from a computer, check the feeding method in the MP driver is set correctly.
4. Check if recommended paper is used and the number of sheets does not exceed the paper loading limits.
5. Clean the paper feed roller to resolve this error.

If the error is not resolved, a printer service error may have occurred. Service is required

The paper is jammed.

Clear the jam.
Paper is likely to jam in the following instances.

1. Confirm there is no foreign material in the paper feed areas.
2. Verify recommended paper is loaded.
3. Verify paper is loaded properly and in the correct paper source.
4. Check if recommended paper is used and the number of sheets does not exceed the paper loading limits.

Failed to scan The document cannot be scanned.
Confirm that the document is placed properly on the platen glass and scan it again.

Inner Cover is open.

Close the inner cover and press the <OK> button.
If the inner cover is opened during printing, the printer may get damaged.
