Recording Directly to a Card with the Camcorder

Set the POWER switch to CAMERA and the TAPE/CARD switch to .
    - The POWER indicator lights up.

  2. Press the start/stop button to begin recording.

  • Do not turn off the camcorder, disconnect the power source, open the memory card cover or remove the memory card while the card access indicator is flashing. Doing so could result in data damage.
  • When you are using a SD Memory Card, make sure that the protect switch is set to allow recording.
  • Do not load/unload a cassette during recording.

  • To use the self-timer, press the (self-timer) button before step 2 and press the <start/stop> button.
  • We recommend saving the still images and movies on the memory card to a computer regularly.
  • We recommend a file size of 1 MB (352 x 288: approx. 20 sec., 176 x 144: approx. 60 sec.) if you plan to attach the MPEG-4 movie to an e-mail message.
  • The sound of a movie recorded on a memory card will be monaural.
  • We recommend using a Canon SD Memory Card, or a SD Memory Card with a transfer rate of more than 2 MB/sec., right after you have formatted it with this camcorder. With memory cards not formatted with this camcorder, or when recording/erasing has been repeatedly performed, the writing speed may be lower and recording may stop.
  • You can select the focusing point when recording a movie on the memory card.
  • The recording time varies according to the movie size, the recoding condition and the subjects.

Recording from a Tape in the Camcorder

Set the POWER switch to PLAY (VCR) and the TAPE/CARD switch to .
    -

  2. Press the button to start the tape playback.

  3. Press the <start/stop> button when the scene you wish to record appears.
    -
You can keep recording until "CARD FULL" appears.

  4. Press the <start/stop> button to stop recording.

  • A movie recorded from an image in 16:9 format will be vertically compressed.
  • The data code of the movie will reflect the date and time it has been recorded on the memory card.
  • Recording stops at blank sections or recordings in different audio mode (12bit/16bit).

Recording from Other Video Devices

You can record movies from devices connected via the S-video terminal or AV terminal (analog line-in function), or via the DV terminal on to a memory card.

    - Set the POWER switch to Camera and the TAPE/CARD switch to .
    -
    "DV IN" appears.
    - If a cassette is loaded, make sure the tape is stopped.
    - When recording via the AV terminal, make sure that "AVDV" is displayed on the screen. When recording via the DV terminal, make sure that "AVDV" is not displayed. Change the setting as necessary.

  2. Connected device: Load a recorded cassette.
