Using a Phone Line Splitter

When using a phone line splitter you must first ensure that you have the correct splitter for the connection you are trying to achieve.

Generally, there are two kinds of splitters. (Single line splitters and multiple line splitters)

Single Line Splitter
Use this splitter if you have a single phone line in which you want to split into two separate jacks.

2-Line Splitter
Usually if you have two phone lines, phone lines come into the house or building on the same phone wire.  If you had a 2-line phone, you would normally just connect it to a single phone jack and you would have access to phone lines on that phone.  However, if you intend to use separate phones that do not support two lines, then you would need to use a 2-line splitter to split the individual phone lines to individual phone jacks.
