Instructions to print directly from a Canon or PictBridge compatible digital camera or video camera to a Canon printer.

Photo Printing Directly From A Digital Camera

Connecting a PictBridge- or Canon Bubble Jet Direct-compatible digital camera or digital video camcorder to the printer enables you to print captured images directly without using a computer.

PictBridge is an industry standard enabling a range of digital photo solutions, including the direct printing of photos from a digital still camera or a digital video camcorder* without the need to use a computer. Having a PictBridge compatible digital camera and a PictBridge compatible printer enables you to easily print a beautiful image directly from the camera, regardless of manufacturers or models. This is completely different from previous direct printing methods, which were advanced by each manufacturer with their own standard, and therefore whose compatibility was restricted.

Canon 'Bubble Jet Direct' allows you to print photos from a Canon 'Bubble Jet Direct' compatible ('PictBridge' incompatible) digital camera or digital video camcorder without a computer by simply connecting the digital camera or digital video camcorder to this machine.

*Hereafter, the digital still camera and digital video camcorder are collectively called a digital camera or camera.

Connecting A Digital Camera to the Printer

Caution: When connecting a supported digital camera to the machine, use the USB cable that is provided with the camera for connecting it to a computer. Do not connect any equipment other than the camera ready for 'PictBridge' or Canon 'Bubble Jet Direct' to the Direct Print Port of the machine. If you do so, electric shock, fire, or damage to the camera could result.

Important information when printing directly from a camera to the printer:

  • When printing from the camera, keep the USB connected until the printer is finished printing.
  • Avoid connecting the digital camera to the machine while copying, scanning, faxing or printing is in progress.
  • When producing photos with the digital camera connected to the machine, it is advisable to use the AC adapter supplied with the camera.
  • If the camera battery is used, be sure the batteries are fresh or fully charged.
  • Depending on the model or brand of your camera, you may have to select a mode of producing photos compliant with 'PictBridge' before connecting the camera.
  • It may be necessary to turn on the camera or select Play mode manually after connecting the camera to the machine. Perform necessary operations according to the instruction manual supplied with your camera.

To prepare for printing directly, please follow this procedure:

  1. Confirm that the digital camera/video camera is powered off.

  2. Using the USB cable (for connection to the computer) supplied with the digital camera/video camera, connect the digital camera/video camera to the printer.

Note: Depending on the model, the digital camera/video camera will either turn on automatically or have to be turned on manually. (For details, see the User Guide for the digital camera/video camera.)

After the digital camera/video camera is connected to the printer, it is possible to confirm whether Direct Printing is possible from the condition of the printer's Power lamp.

Note: Even though the green lamp may be lit, if the digital camera/video camera does not support Direct Printing, printing is not possible.

When the digital camera/video camera is properly connected to the printer, the 'PictBridge' or 'Bubble Jet Direct' logo is displayed on the digital camera/video camera's LCD monitor.

The image below is an example of the digital camera display when connected to the printer.

If the appropriate logo is not displayed, remove and re-connect the USB cable.

You are now ready to print images from the camera.

To print from a Canon digital camera, please follow this procedure:

  1. To display the image to print, operate the keys of the digital camera/video camera.

  2. To display the [Print Setting] screen, press the <Set> button of the digital camera/video camera.

  3. Select [Style] or [Paper Settings]

  4. Select the paper size, bordered/borderless printing, and date printing settings.

  5. After setting, select [Print], and press <Set> to start printing.

For cameras not manufactured by Canon, please refer to the camera's User Guide or to the camera manufacturer for assistance with settings and print controls.
