Description

Instructions to restart the computer for Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

Solution

Restart Computer

In some cases it is required to restart the computer with the peripheral device (printer, scanner, etc.) already powered on.

  1. If the device has a power button, press it to power it off. If the device does not have a power button, disconnect the power cord from the device to make sure it's powered off.

  2. After the device is powered off, shut down the computer.

  3. Once the computer is shut down, power back on the peripheral device.

Click on the appropriate Operating System for instructions to restart the computer:  Windows XP, Windows2000/Windows98/WindowsMe, Mac OS 9.x, Mac OS X

Note:  If an OS other than those listed above is being used, follow the appropriate procedure to turn the PC off as provided by the computer's manufacturer or operating system vendor. 

Windows XP

  1. Click Start

  2. Select 'Turn Off Computer'

  3. Click 'Restart'

Windows2000/Windows98/WindowsMe

  1. Click Start

  2. Select 'Turn Off Computer'

  3. Click 'Restart'. 

Mac OS 9.x

  1. Click on the Special

  2. Select 'Restart'. 


Mac OS X 

  1. Click on the Apple menu (Apple mark) 

  2. Select 'Restart'.

Note:  If system trouble prevents restarting the PC, use the power switch to turn the PC off, wait a few moments and then use the power switch to turn the PC on again.  If system trouble still prevents the restart of the PC, refer to the computer's manufacturer for further assistance.
