Solution

Use Photo Optimizer PRO (Windows)

The Photo Optimizer PRO function is designed to automatically adjust coloring and brightness by correcting sections of the photograph that may be either too dark or too bright.

Notes:

  • In Windows Me or Windows 98, the Photo Optimizer PRO function will not be available if Background Printing has been disabled.
  • It is easy to confirm whether background printing is in progress. Open the printer driver's Preferences / Properties dialog box, select Page Setup and click 'Printer Control'.
  • The Photo Optimizer PRO function works by checking the photograph's brightness distribution and making the white sections whiter and the black sections darker. Increasing contrast in this way produces a sharper image.
  • The Photo Optimizer PRO function may not be as effective for some image resolutions and when used with certain software applications.
  1. Access the printing preferences by opening the printer Properties / Preferences.

    For Windows Vista
    • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

    For Windows XP Home Edition

    • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and Faxes.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

    For Windows XP Professional Edition

    • Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Printers and Faxes.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

    For Windows 2000/Me/98

    • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

  2. Click the Effects tab.

  3. Select the Photo Optimizer Pro check box.

Note: If the image data has been manipulated using cut and paste, rotation or other such operations, group optimization of all images on the one page is recommended. In such cases, select the Apply Throughout Page check box.

  4. Click 'OK'.

Note:

  1. Photo Optimizer PRO does not function when:
  • Background is set in the Stamp/Background dialog box on the Page Setup tab.
  • Define Stamp is selected in the Stamp/Background dialog box on the Page Setup tab, and the bitmapped stamp is configured.
  1. Depending on images, the Photo Optimizer PRO may have no discernible effect.
