Description

Learn how to set "Prevent paper abrasion" on a PIXMA printer using Windows. This setting limits streaks and smudges when using thick, non-Canon paper.

Solution

The Prevent paper abrasion function increases the space between the print head and the paper. This prevents the print head from touching the paper, which is useful when using thicker, non-Canon paper.

Note If Prevent paper abrasion is selected, smudges may disappear, but the print quality may also deteriorate. If this happens, select High in the Print Quality section of your printer settings.

Set the Prevent paper abrasion function

  1. Make sure the printer is plugged in and turned ON.

  2. Hold the Windows key  on the keyboard and type the letter R.  In the Run box, type control printers and click OK.

  3. Right-click your model name icon, then select Preferences or Printing preferences from the menu. The printer driver setup window appears

  4. Select the Maintenance tab, then Custom Settings.

Custom settings selected from Maintenance tab

  5. Select Prevent paper abrasion, then Send.

Prevent paper abrasion check box selected from Custom Settings

  6. Select OK.

Write settings to printer? OK button selected

Note When printing with Prevent paper abrasion enabled, the following warning message will appear each time you print:

Prevent paper abrasion is set. Warning: If you continue printing without changing the setting, print quality may be affected
