Verify Infrared Configuration
Requirements for connecting to a computer via infrared:

Performing infrared transmission:
Set the infrared port of the computer or PDA to face that of the printer at a distance of less than 80 cm.
The effective angle of the printer's infrared port is about 10 degrees from the central axis in vertical and horizontal directions.
Notes:
- Do not place any obstacles between the infrared ports of the printer and PDA or computer. Data cannot be transmitted between them. Check the orientation and positions of the infrared ports of the printer and PDA or computer. Oppose these ports properly as mentioned above.
- Before printing data or using a maintenance function of the printer driver, ensure that the name of the printer connected based on the IrDA system is displayed by clicking the Wireless Link icon (for Windows Me, Windows 98 or Windows 95, click the Infrared icon) in the Control Panel.
- During printing, be careful not to interrupt infrared transmission with the printer. If it is interrupted, turn off the printer and cancel printing on the computer or PDA. Placing the pointer on the Wireless Link icon (For Windows Me, Windows 98 or Windows 95, click the Infrared icon) on the Control Panel allows you to check whether IrDA transmission has been interrupted.
- When using Infrared transmission in Windows XP or Windows 2000, the BJ Status Monitor is not displayed.
Confirming infrared transmission settings:
When using a computer with Windows XP/2000 preinstalled, the Microsoft Infrared Communications Driver is normally installed, so installation is not necessary.
When using a computer with Windows 98/Me preinstalled, the Microsoft Infrared Communications Driver must have been installed.
Using Windows 95, transmission is performed with IrDA 1.0 (baud rate max.115.2kbps). In this case, the Microsoft Infrared Communications Driver Version 2.0 must be installed.
Using Windows Me, confirm whether the infrared transmission driver is installed, following the procedures below:
- Click 'Start', 'Settings', and 'Control Panel'.
- Confirm the wireless link icon is displayed in the window. If this icon is displayed, the required infrared driver is installed. If this icon is not displayed, refer to the computer's user documentation.

Using Windows 95/98, confirm whether the infrared transmission driver is installed, following the procedures below, and enable the infrared port for use.
- Click 'Start', 'Settings', and 'Control Panel'.
- Confirm the Infrared Monitor icon is displayed in the window. If this icon is displayed, the required infrared driver is installed. If this icon is not displayed, refer to the computer's user documentation.
- Double-click the Infrared Monitor icon.

- Option Sheet settings: Check that the 'Enable infrared on' (Windows 95) or 'Enable infrared communication' (Windows98) item is checked.
