Performing Bluetooth Communication

The printer allows you to make settings for printing using Bluetooth compliant devices other than a computer. When you print from these devices, also refer to the instruction manual supplied with your product.

Note: The PDA, mobile phone or digital camera supporting the OPP (Object Push Profile) or BIP (Basic Imaging Profile). For details of profiles, refer to your product's instruction manual.

  1. Prepare to print.
    1. Confirm the printer is powered on.
    2. Load the paper in the auto sheet feeder (ASF).
    3. Ensure the paper source (MP500 / MP800 / MP950 only).

  2. Connect the Bluetooth unit BU-20 to the direct print port.

    Note:
    * The blue lamp on the Bluetooth unit (BU-20) lights if it is properly installed.
    * The Bluetooth settings screen does not appear until the BU-20 unit is installed.

  3. Set the print settings.

  4. Start printing from a mobile phone or other device.

    * When you select the device name select the initial value of the printer 'Canon MP450', 'Canon MP500', 'Canon MP800', etc.

    * If you are required to enter the passkey, enter the initial value '0000'.

You can change the device name of the printer or passkey in Bluetooth settings on the printer.

Communication is possible up to about 32.8 ft./10 meters depending on the conditions below. The printing speed may change depending on the following conditions:

  • Presence of obstacles between the communication equipment and radio wave conditions.
  • Presence of magnetic fields, static electricity or electromagnetic interference.
  • Receiver sensitivity and antenna performance of the communication equipment.

Limitations apply on transmittable data, see About Transmittable data.
