Zapping the PRAM
Restart the computer and hold down the <command>, <option>, <P> and <R> keys until the Mac restarts itself.
You'll see the "smiling Mac" or flashing Question Mark for a second. The icon will disappear and the computer restarts.
Note: Zapping the PRAM may return some control panel items to their default settings.
