Direct Printing

What is direct printing?

Direct printing is a way to print directly from the camera to the printer, without using a computer. If your camera is compatible with direct printing, you can find the following marks on the camera's package box or in the camera user guide that came with the camera.

Depending on the camera connected to the printer, there are two ways to make direct prints:

Canon Direct Print: Printing with Canon cameras
PictBridge: Printing with Canon cameras or non-Canon cameras

* The connection type is selected automatically.

Printing with Canon Direct Print

After connecting the printer to the camera to play back images recorded in the camera, the mark shown on the left will appear on the camera's LCD monitor. In this case, printing will be done via Canon Direct Print. Canon Direct Print is only available when using Canon cameras and Canon camera direct printers (CP-series) together.

The Canon Direct Print icon as it appears on the camera's LCD monitor (the icon may appear differently depending on the camera you are using):

If this icon does not appear after correctly connecting the camera and the printer, your camera's firmware may not be compatible with the printer. Refer to the Related Information at the bottom of this page, and then, after confirming the appropriate firmware for your model, update the camera's firmware to the current version.

The following prints can be made with Canon Direct Print.

ID Photo
Specify the print size and print portion of an image or a whole image as an ID photo.* Images printed with the ID Photo Print function may not be suitable for official use.
Movie print
Make an index print from movie frames selected automatically at fairly regular intervals on a sheet of paper.
Multiple
Print eight copies of the same image on a sheet of paper.

* To use these functions, it is necessary that the camera also be compatible with them (in addition to the printer being compatible). If the camera is incompatible, you cannot use these functions for printing.

Also, the PictBridge icon below may appear depending on your camera even if you are using a Canon camera and a Canon camera direct printer together.
For more information, refer to the Camera User Guide or the Direct Print User Guide that came with your camera.

Printing with PictBridge

After connecting the printer to the camera to play back images recorded in the camera, the mark shown on the left will appear on the camera's LCD monitor. In this case, printing will be done via PictBridge. When the camera connected to the printer is PictBridge-compatible, you can also make direct prints with cameras other than those made by Canon.

The following prints can be made with PictBridge.

N-up
Two or four images of the same dimensions are arranged on a single sheet of paper. You can also arrange several different images on the same paper (as well as a single image). When using credit card-size paper, it is possible to print eight images on one sheet of paper.
Fixed size
A fixed-size image is printed on one side of a sheet of paper without a border. The margin on the other side of the paper may be useful for adding comments to the image.
ID photo
Specify the print size and print portion of an image or a whole image as an ID photo.* Images printed with the ID Photo Print function may not be suitable for official use.
Movie print
Make an index print from movie frames selected automatically at fairly regular intervals on a sheet of paper.

* To use these functions, it is necessary that the camera also be compatible with them (in addition to the printer being compatible). If the camera is incompatible, you cannot use these functions for printing.

Please refer to the Camera User Guide or Printer User Guide for more information on direct printing with Canon cameras or PictBridge-compliant cameras.
