Copying Film / Slides

You can scan 35 mm film into the machine. film strips (six connected frames per strip after regular developing) and slides (one frame per mounted slide) are supported. Various effects can be applied to the images before printing them.

Note:

* To scan in a different film, press <FILM> when the film preview screen is displayed. When [Do you want to clear the photo scanned from film?] is displayed, select [Yes, press <OK> to delete the previous film data, then go to step 3 in "Loading The Film".

* If ink runs out or a paper jam occurs during printing, the data that was being printed is cleared after the problem is resolved. Print the photographs again as necessary.

  1. Place film or slide on the platen glass.

  2. Press <FILM>.



  3. Use [<] or [>] to select the type of film you want to scan.

    The available film types are:
  4. [Color Negative Film] Film for color photo.
    [Black&White Negative Film] Film for black-and-white photo.
    [Color Posittive Film] Also called reversal film. It describes similar color you see.
    [35mm Slide] Film for slide.
  5. Pressing the down arrow displays information on how to set the film.

  6. Press <OK>.

    The film is scanned in then a preview is displayed.

  7. Press <Feed Switch> to select the paper source, then load paper in that location.


    REAR: The Auto Sheet Feeder (ASF) is selected.


    FRONT: The Cassette is selected.

  8. Use [<] or [>] to select a photo, then press <OK>.



  9. Use the up or down arrow to select the number of prints.

    Note:
    * To print using other methods, press <Menu>.
    * To specify other print settings, press <Settings>.
    * You can also specify which area of the photo to print by cropping it. Crop the image after specifying the paper size, type, and bordered/borderless printing.
    1. Press <Settings> to select the paper size, media type, border and then press <OK> or <Settings> to apply the changes.



      The following print settings are available:
    2. Paper Size: 4"x6"; 5"x7"; Credit-card-size; A4; 8.5"x11" (Letter)
      Media Type: Photo Paper Pro; Photo Plus Glossy; Other Photo Paper; Plain Paper; Glossy Photo Paper; High Res. Paper; Transparency
      Quality: The image quality is set to <Fine>. Settings other than <Fine> cannot be selected.
      Border:  Bordered, Borderless
    3. Press <Trimming> to crop the image.

  10. Press <Color> for color printing, or <Black> for black & white printing.

    The machine starts printing.

     IMPORTANT:
    The film will be scanned again before printing, so do not remove the film from the platen glass or do not open the document cover until printing has finished.


    To cancel printing, press <Stop/Reset>.

Load Film / Slides

Mount film in the appropriate film guide then position the film guide on the Platen Glass before scanning.

(A): 35mm film strip

(B): 35mm slide

  1. Remove the FAU Protective Sheet from the document cover.



  2. Remove the film guides for film strip and slides from the rear of the FAU Protective Sheet.



  3. Mount film in the appropriate film guide as described below.

Mounting a 35 mm Film Strip:

  1. On the film guide, open the film holder.

    NOTE: Gently squeeze in the edges (1) of the film holder to release it (2).



  2. Mount the film in the film guide with the front side (the side showing the correct image) face down so that the frame order runs from right to left.



  3. To close the film holder, squeeze it gently inward while pressing downward so that all the tabs on its outer edges fit into the slots in the film guide. If the film holder will not close properly, reposition the film so that it is clear of the film guide slots and try again.

  4. Turn the film guide upside down.



  5. With the front side of the film (the side showing the correct image) face down, set the film guide on the Platen Glass and align it with the indentation on the left.



    NOTE:
    a. If the image edges are whitened when a short film strip with less than 6 frames is scanned, shield the uncovered area with a piece of black paper.
    b. Labels attached to areas of the film without images may be interpreted as images and be included in the scan.

Mounting 35 mm Slides:

  1. Align the film guide with the indentation on the left side of the Platen Glass.



  2. Mount the slides in the film guide with the front side (the side showing the correct image) face down, the image upside down, and so that the frame order runs from left to right. Mount the slides in the film guide with the front side (the side showing the correct image) face down, the frame order running from left to right, and with the image upside down. Load the slides in the landscape orientation, making sure they are not loose in the film guide.



    IMPORTANT:
    The images may be unsatisfactory if the film is set beyond the reference position indicated by the white line (obscuring the calibration slot). Do not set the film beyond the reference position.

Cropping Images (Trimming)

You can edit images displayed on the LCD by cropping them.

Note:
Crop images after specifying the paper size, media type, and bordered/borderless printing in the Settings menu in FILM mode. In some cases the cropping area might be adjusted to match the paper, or be disabled completely.

  1. Display the scanned image that you want to crop.

  2. Press <Trimming>.

  3. Use [<] or [>], up or down arrow to position the cropping frame, then press <OK>.



  4. Use [<] or [>] to rotate the cropping frame, then press <OK>.

    Pressing [<] returns to step 3.
    Use up or down arrow to convert the frame between portrait and landscape.



  5. Use up or down arrow to resize the cropping frame.

    Pressing [<] returns to step 4.
    Pressing the up arrow makes the frame bigger, pressing the down arrow makes it smaller.



  6. Press <OK>.
    You have now finished cropping the photo.

Note:
* You can change the cropping area after setting it by pressing <Trimming> again.
* To cancel cropping while editing the cropping frame, press <Stop/Reset> when the cropping edit screen is displayed.
* To cancel cropping after cropping has been set, press <Stop/Reset>.
