The AF point is used for focusing. The AF point can be selected automatically by the camera or manually by you. Automatic AF point selection is set in the Basic Zone modes and <A DEP>. In the <P> <Tv> <Av> <M> modes, you can switch between automatic and manual AF point selection.
Automatic AF point Selection
The camera selects the AF point automatically according to the shooting conditions. All the AF points in the viewfinder will light in red.
Manual AF point Selection
You can select any of the seven AF points manually. This is best when you want to be sure to focus on a particular subject, or to use quick AF function to help you compose a particular shot quickly.

1. Press the < > button. ( )
- The selected AF point will be displayed in the viewfinder and on the LCD panel.

2. Select the desired AF point.
- While looking at the viewfinder or LCD panel, use <
 >.
- The AF point in the direction where you press the <> will be selected.
- If you press <> straight down, the center AF point will be selected.
- If you push the <> in the same direction as the currently-selected AF point, all the AF points will light and automatic AF point selection will be set.

Selecting with the Dial

- Press the <> and turn the <
 > or < > dial.
- When you turn the dial, the selection will go in the looping sequence shown on the left.

- When looking at the LCD panel to select the AF point, note the following: Automatic selection
 center  , right  , top  .
- If focus cannot be achieved with an EOS-dedicated, external Speedlite?s AF-assist beam, select the center AF point.
