Troubleshooting steps for when your printer does not power on

Solution

Wait At Least 5 Minutes

When the printer will not power on, disconnect the power cord, wait approximately five minutes and then reconnect the power cord.

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the device and the electrical source.

The above illustration shows an MP830. The location of the electrical port of your printer may vary.

  2. After disconnecting the power cord, wait at least five minutes.

  3. Inspect the power cord for damage (exposed wiring, cracked, etc.).  If the cord is not damaged, plug it back in after at least five minutes.

  4. If you are still unable to obtain power to the device, try another power outlet.

  5. If possible, try connecting power directly to a wall outlet (as opposed to using a surge protector or power strip...just as a troubleshooting measure).

If none of these solutions allow the printer to power on, there may be a hardware failure.
