Instructions to print the nozzle check directly from the printer. By printing a nozzle check pattern, you can check whether ink ejects normally from the print head nozzles.

  1. Load letter sized plain paper in the sheet feeder or cassette.

  2. Press and hold the <Resume/Cancel> button.

  3. When the Power lamp blinks twice, release the button.

Note: The Power lamp blinks and the nozzle check pattern will be printed. (After the printer initializes, it will take about 10 seconds until printing is completed.)

  4. Examine the nozzle check pattern output.

Correct Nozzle Pattern Incorrect nozzle pattern

  • Lines are aligned systematically.
  • Black ink: There are no missing lines and lines are aligned systematically.

  • Color ink: There are no white streaks.

  • No ink is ejected. (Nothing appears on the output.)
  • Some colors of ink are not ejected completely. (Sample: Black ink is not ejected.)
  • Some black ink patterns are missing.

  • White streaks appear in color ink.

If the output is correct, the print head is normal.

If the output is incorrect, perform the following steps:

  1. Perform a deep print head cleaning

  2. Print the nozzle check pattern again

  3. If any lines or colors are missing from the nozzle check pattern perform two more deep print head cleanings
Caution: Avoid performing more than three deep cleanings in a twenty-four hour period.

  4. Print the nozzle check pattern again

If the nozzle check pattern is still incorrect, service may be required.
