How to start the Windows Imaging Acquisition (WIA) Service (Win XP / Win 7)

1. Click Start.
   
   
2. Right-click My Computer or Computer and select Manage.  This brings up the 'Computer Management' window seen below.
   
   
   
    
3. Under 'Services and Applications' click Services.  This will display a list of services in the right pane of the 'Computer Management' window. A portion of this window is seen below.
   
   
    
4. Scroll through the list to locate and then double-click Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
   This brings up the 'Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Properties' window seen below.
   
   
   
    
5. Be sure that 'Startup type:' is not set to Disabled.  You can choose either Automatic or Manual.
   
   
6. Once you have enabled the 'Startup type:', under 'Sevice status:' click the Start button to start the service.

1. While on the Metro desktop, type the letter "C" (without the quotation marks).

How to start STIMON (Windows 98 & Me)

• Click Start, then Run, and type "stimon.exe" and click OK.
