Description

[Protected] is displayed on the screen when I try to erase an image (EOS M3)

Solution

Protected images cannot be erased using the cameras erasure function. To erase them this way, first cancel protection.

Removing protection from individual images on the playback screen

1. Press the [ ] button to turn the camera on.

2. Press the [ ], [ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial to choose the image you want to erase.

3. Press the [ ] button.
[ ] is displayed on protected images.


4. Press the [ ], [ ] buttons to choose [ ], press the [ ], [ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial or [ ] dial to select [OFF], and then press the [ ] button.

The [ ] icon is no longer displayed and protection has been removed.

Selecting images and removing protection from them individually

1. Set the cameras power to [ON].

2. Press the [ ] button to display the menu screen.

3. Press the [ ], [ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial to select the [ - 1 ] tab, Press the [ ], [ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial to select [Protect], and then press the [ ] button.


4. Choose [Select], and then press the [ ] button.

5. Press the [ ], [ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial to select the image you want to remove protection from.
  • Display of the [ ] icon in the upper part of the screen indicates that an image is protected.

6. Press the [ ] button. [ ] is no longer displayed.
  • To select other images, repeat the procedure above.
  • If you press the [ ] button, a confirmation screen will be displayed.

7. Press the [ ], [ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial to choose [OK], and then press the [ ] button.

Protection will be removed from the selected image.
REFERENCE
Images will not be protected if you switch to Shooting mode or turn the camera off before finishing the setup process in step 7.

Removing Protection from a Range of Images

You can remove protection from a range of images at one time.

1. Following steps 1 through 3 in 'Selecting images and removing protection from them individually' above.

2. Choose [Select Range], and then press the [ ] button.

3. Choose a starting image and press the [ ] button.

4. Press the [ ], [ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial to choose an image, and then press the [ ] button.

5. Press the [ ] button to choose [Last image], and then press the [ ] button.

6. Press the ], [ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial to choose an image, and then press the [ ] button.
  • Images before the first image cannot be selected as the last image.

7. Press the [ ] button to choose [Protect], press the [ ] button to choose [Unlock], and then press the [ ] button.

Protection will be removed from all the selected images.

Clearing All Protection at Once

You can clear protection from all images at once.

1. Following steps 1 through 3 in 'Selecting images and removing protection from them individually' above.

2. Press the [ ], [ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial to choose [Unprotect All Images], and then press the [ ] button.

3. Press the [ ], [ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial to choose [OK], and then press the [ ] button.

Protection will be removed from all protected images.
