Description

Learn what causes the "Cannot playback image" message to appear on your EOS M3 or EOS M10 and how to resolve the issue.

Solution

Follow the steps below to learn the main causes of the "Cannot playback image" message.

  1. If you play back images captured with a non-Canon camera:

  • Images captured with other maker’s cameras may not display on Canon cameras. Please playback the image on the camera you captured it with, or check to see whether the image displays after you import it into a computer.

  • For information on how to import images to a computer, please see the EOS Utility instruction manual bundled with the camera.

  • If the EOS Utility instruction manual wasn't included with your camera, please download it from: https://www.usa.canon.com/support/eos-utilities

  1. Images imported to a computer, that have been rotated, edited, and written back to the memory card, may not display on Canon cameras. Please save these types of images to a computer to display them.

  2. There is a problem with the memory card.

  • If you have multiple memory cards, initialize or format another memory card and take some test shots. If these images play back normally, the card that shows the error message has a malfunction.

  • The issue may be resolved if you format the memory card.

  • When the card is formatted, all images, protected images, and data in the card will be erased. If necessary, transfer or save the images to a computer, etc., before you format the card.

  • For more information on how to format the card, refer to the camera's instruction manual.
