Setting up a Printer for Direct Connect / Access Point Mode with Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY (Android)


If you don't have a wireless router or network, you can still use the printer wirelessly with the Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY app by using Direct Connection

The app itself can be used for scanning and printing from your Android device and for making copy settings. 

Prior to setup you will need to have the Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY app installed on your Android tablet or Smart Phone (Get the Application) and power on the printer.

Follow the steps below to complete the setup:

  1. Set your printer into cableless setup  Click here if you need help.

  2. In your Android devices Wi-Fi settings select the printer's listing. This will normally start with "Canon_ij_" or "DIRECT-" , for example Canon_ij_0000_TS****series or DIRECT-abc0-TS****series. (**** refers to a model number)  See highlighted examples below


  3. Open Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY.


    When you first run Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY, you may be asked to grant permission for the app to access your storage and location.  Tap Yes.

  4. You will see some info for this app.  Tap Permissions (you may need to scroll down to see it, depending on your device).

  5. Tap the switches on the right for CameraLocation, and Storage.  Then, tap the left arrow at the upper left.

  6. Tap the square at the bottom of the screen to see open apps.  Tap on the Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY app to continue.

  7. ?When this screen appears, tap Yes.

  8. Connection is complete.  Tap Select images to start using the application*** or tap Cancel.

How to Rename the Printer (Optional)

  1. On the main screen tap the printer's icon

  2. Tap the 'Add/Switch' icon

  3. Press and hold the printer name.  This will give an option to enter a name for the printer.

  4. Enter a name and tap OK.

  5. The printer will now display the name you provided.
