Learn how to set up a printer on a wireless LAN connection using the Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY app on an iOS device.

Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY is a free application that allows iPad®, iPhone® or iPod® touch users to enjoy a variety of PIXMA, MAXIFY and SELPHY print capabilities.

This app allows you to set up a wireless capable printer on the network through a cableless setup. To use this setup, follow the steps below.

Cableless setup

  1. Go to the Apple Store® to download Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY app.

  2. Set your printer into cableless setup mode, also referred to as Easy Wireless Connect. For help or instructions, select your printer model from the drop-down list below.
Be sure to start Easy Wireless Connect before you start the app.

  3. On your iOS® device, go to the device settings and select Wi-Fi®.

  4. Select the SSID that your printer broadcasts (depending on the model, it may be Canon_ij_Setup or an SSID that has the model name in it, such as Canon_ij_053xx_MG6800series). Enter the password to connect to it if prompted. Learn more about the printer's default password.

  5. Once you connect to the printer's SSID, open the Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY app.

  6. When you first open the app, an Extended Survey message appears.  Read the information and tap Agree or Do not agree. You will be able to use the app regardless of which option you select.

  7. If prompted to allow this app to use Bluetooth® to connect with the printer, tap Don't Allow. Also, if asked whether you want to allow this app to access your location, tap Allow While Using App.

  8. When asked if you want to search for available printers, tap Yes.

  9. A list of networks appears. Tap on the name of your network.

If your printer is too far away from your router, your device may attempt to establish a direct connection with the printer. If this happens, turn off the printer and move it closer to your router. Then, restart this process from step 3.

  10. If your network has a password on it, enter that password then tap OK. You can tap the Show password box to display the password as or after you type it in.

  11. The password for your wireless network is sent to the printer.

  12. After a few moments, Settings information has been sent displays on the screen. Tap OK.

  13. Your device reconnects to your network. Tap Yes.

  14. Your device searches for printers. Wait for it to finish.

  15. Your device automatically detects the printer which is then added in the app. Tap Select images to choose a picture to print.

  16. If this is your first time to print from the app, you may be prompted to allow access to your photos. Tap OK.

  17. A list of available photo albums appears. Tap on the album you want to access.

  18. Tap on the thumbnail for an image you want to print, then tap Select, and Next.

  19. Tap Print settings to change any of the settings listed on the screen (number of copies, paper size, etc.), then tap Print.
