Setting up a Printer on a Wireless LAN with Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY (iOS)

This article will show you how to set up a printer on a wireless LAN using Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad).



Wireless Setup


Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY is a free application that allows iPad, iPhone or iPod touch users to enjoy a variety of PIXMA, MAXIFY and SELPHY printing capabilities. 

This app allows you to set up a wireless capable printer on the network through a cableless setup.  To execute this setup, follow the steps below.


  • Not all models that are compatible with Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY will support this feature.

  • For instructions on changing the name of a listed printer in Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY, click here.

  1. Go to the App Store to download Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY.  Search for Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY in the App Store, or click here for a link to its listing on iTunes.
  2. Set your printer into cableless setup mode (also referred to as Easy Wireless Connect)* .  For help / Instructions, select model
    PIXMA iP / iX

    *Be sure to start Easy Wireless Connect before starting the app.
  3. On your iOS device, go into the device settings and select Wi-Fi.
  4. Select the SSID that your printer is broadcasting (Depending on the model, it may be Canon_ij_Setup or an SSID that has the model name in it, such as Canon_ij_053xx_MG6800series).  Enter the password to connect to it if prompted.  Click here for more information.
  5. After connecting to the printer's SSID, open Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY.
  6. When you first open Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY, an Extended Survey message will appear.  Read the information and tap Agree or Do not agree.  You will be able to use the app regardless of which option you select.

    NOTE: If you are prompted to allow this app to use Bluetooth to connect with the printer, tap Don't Allow. Also, if you are asked to allow this app to access your location, tap Allow While Using App.
  7. You will be asked if you want to search for available printers.  Tap Yes.

  8. A list of networks will appear.  Tap on the name of your network.

    NOTE:  If your printer is too far away from your wireless router, your iOS device may attempt to establish a direct connection with the printer.  If this happens, power off the printer and move it closer to your wireless router.  Then, restart this process from step 2.
  9. If your network has a password on it, you will be prompted to enter that password.  Type in the password for your network and tap OK.  You can tap the Show password box to display the password as you are typing it in, or after it has been typed in.

  10. The password for your wireless network will be sent to the printer.

    After a few moments, Settings information has been sent. will be displayed on the screen.  Tap OK.

  11. Your iOS device will reconnect to your network.  You will be asked to search for available printers.  Tap Yes.

    Your iOS device will search for printers.

  12. Your printer will be detected and automatically added in the app.  Tap Select images to choose a picture to print.

    If this is the first time printing from the app, you may be prompted to allow access to your photos.  Tap OK.

  13. A list of photo albums on your iOS device will appear.  Tap on an album.

  14. Tap on the thumbnail for any image you want to print.  Tap Select. Then, tap Next.

  15. You will come to the Print Preview screen.  Tap Print settings if you want to change any of the settings listed on the screen (number of copies, paper size, etc.).  Tap Print to begin printing.

    Your image will begin to print.  

If you have already registered your printer with Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY and would like to change its name, follow the steps below.

  1. From the main screen of Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY, tap the printer icon at the bottom.

  2. Tap Add / Switch.

  3. Tap and hold the name of the registered printer in the list.

  4. When prompted, enter a name that you would like to use for the printer.  Tap OK.

  5. After tapping OK, tap Back at the upper left corner.

  6. Tap the X at the upper right.

  7. The printer will now appear in Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY with the name you specified.
