Learn how to find and change the default user name and administrator password for various PIXMA, MAXIFY, and imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printers.

Solution

Depending on the printer you use, an administrator password may be assigned at the time of purchase.

Tip The password is either canon or the printer serial number (if it is specified).

If canon is the password

The user name assigned to the models listed below will be ADMIN.

  • MG7500 series

  • MG6600 series

  • MG5600 series

  • MX490 series

  • MB5300 series

  • MB5000 series

  • MB2300 series

  • MB2000 series

  • iB4000 series

  • PRO-100 series (Firmware version earlier than 2.201)

  • PRO-10 series (Firmware version earlier than 2.201)

If the serial number is the password

For the models not listed above, the printer serial number is the administrator password.

To Change the password

Depending on your printer, you can change the password using one of the tools listed below:

  • Operation panel of the printer.

  • IJ Network Tool.

  • Printer information screen displayed on some Canon application software.

The following character restrictions apply:

  • Set the password by using 4 to 32 characters (for security reasons we recommend at least 6).

  • You can use letters and numerals.

Note If it's a shared printer, contact the administrator for the password. You can revert to the default password by initializing the printer settings.
