Description
There are two ways you can connect the L24 / L36 scanners so that they communicate with the printers: 1) Scanner connects directly to the printer, or 2) Scanner connects to the network.
Solution
Depending on how you want to use the scanner will determine how you connect the scanner to the printer.
1. Direct connection
If you wish to use the scanner in "Copy" or "Scan to USB" modes only, you can connect the scanner directly to the printer. Use the provided network cable and plug it into the scanner's network port and then to the printers network port.
NOTE: When using the scanner/printer in this configuration, it is very important to turn off DHCP and manually set the IP address of the scanner and printer in consecutive addresses. For example:
Scanner: 111.111.111.111
Printer: 111.111.111.112
The default gateway and subnet masks must also be the same. The scanner will not communicate with the printer if the IP addresses are not consecutive.
2. Connected to the network
If you wish to use the scanner in all modes, inlcuding "Scan to PC", the scanner, as well as the printer, must be connected directly to the network via ethernet cable. In this configuration, it is not necessary to manually configure the IP address of either devices, you can use DHCP and the IP addresses are not required to be consecutive.
