Using the Printer via Direct Connection - imagePROGRAF PRO-1000

Solution

Direct connection allows you to print by connecting the printer to a device such as a smartphone or tablet via wireless connection in an environment where a wireless router is not available. In addition, you can connect the printer to a device without a wireless router even where it is available.

Important
  • This setting item is for the administrator. The administrator password is required to change settings.

Preparing for Direct Connection

Change settings below to prepare for direct connection.

  • Changing printer's settings

    1. Make sure printer is turned on.

    2. Select  LAN settings on HOME screen.

      If you specify the administrator password, enter the password.

    3. Use the up or down arrows to select Change LAN and press OK button.

    4. Use the up or down arrows to select Activate direct connect. and press OK button.

    5. Use the up or down arrows to select Yes and press OK button.

      The identifier (SSID) for direct connection appears.

      When a device detects the printer, the device detects the printer by the identifier (SSID).

       Note

      • If you press the the up or down arrows to select Details, the following items appear.

        • Security setting

        • Password

        • Machine's name which appears on a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device

        The password is required when connecting a device to the printer. Depending on the device you are using, no password is required.

        When you connect a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device to the printer, select the device name displayed on the LCD from your device.

    6. Use the up or down arrows to select OK and press the OK button.

      The direct connection is enabled and a wireless communication device can be connected to the printer wirelessly.

  • Changing settings of a wireless communication device and connecting it to the printer

     Note

    • Before connecting a device, we recommend you check the identifier (SSID) and the password for the direct connection.

      To check the identifier (SSID) and the password, display them on the operation panel of the printer or print out the network setting information of the printer.

    1. Turn on wireless communication on your device.

      Enable "Wi-Fi" on your device's "Setting" menu.

      For more on turning on wireless communication, see your device's instruction manual.

    2. Select "DIRECT-XXXX-PRO-YYYYseries" ("XXXX" represents alphanumeric characters, and "YYYY" represents numbers.) from list displayed on device.

    3. Enter password.

      Your device is connected to the printer.

       Note

      • Depending on the wireless communication device you are using, entering the password is required to connect a device to the printer via wireless LAN. Enter the password specified for the printer.

      • If your Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is set to prioritize using Wi-Fi Direct and it is connecting to the printer, the printer displays a confirmation screen asking if you allow the device to connect to the printer.

        Make sure the name on the LCD is the same as that of your wireless communication device, select Yes, and then press the OK button.

Printing with Direct Connection

Connect a device and the printer with direct connection and start printing from the device.

 Note

  • For more on printing from a device via wireless LAN, refer to the device's or application's instruction manual.

Terminating Direct Connection

In environments that the printer is usually connected with the computer over the wireless LAN, set the printer to the wireless LAN connection following the procedure below when you finish using the printer with the direct connection temporarily.

  1. Select  LAN settings on HOME screen.

    If you specify the administrator password, enter the password.

  2. Use the up or down arrows to select Change LAN and press OK button.

  3. Use the up or down arrows to select Activate wireless LAN and press OK button.

    If you do not use the printer over wireless LAN, select Activate wired LAN or Disable LAN.

Changing Direct Connection Setting

Change the settings for the direct connection following the procedure below.

  1. Make sure printer is turned on.

  2. Select  Various settings on HOME screen.

  3. Use the up or down arrows to select Device settings and press the OK button.

  4. Use the up or down arrows to select LAN settings and press the OK button.

    If you specify the administrator password, enter the password.

  5. Use the up or down arrows to select Other settings and press the OK button.

  6. Use the up or down arrows to select Direct connection settings and press the OK button.

  7. Use the up or down arrows to select an item and press the OK button.

    1. Press the OK button.

    2. Enter device name (up to 32 characters).

    3. Use the arrows to select OK and press the OK button.

    4. Press the OK button to finish entering device name.

    Update SSID/password

    Update the identifier (SSID) and the password for direct connection.

    When the confirmation screen appears, select Yes and press the OK button to update the identifier (SSID) and the password.

    To check the security setting and the updated password, use the the up or down arrows to select Details and press the OK button. After that, select Yes on the screen displayed next and press the OK button.

    Direct connection device name

    Change the printer's name displayed on the Wi-Fi Direct compatible device.

    Pressing the OK button displays the screen to specify the device name.

    Follow the procedure below to change the name.

    Connection request confirmation

    Change the confirmation screen setting when a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is connecting to the printer.

    Pressing the OK button displays the confirmation screen. If you want the printer to display the screen to inform you a Wi-Fi Direct device is connecting to the printer, select Yes and press the OK button.

     Important

    • To prevent an unauthorized access, we recommended you should not change the setting from the default.

    When you finished performing the settings, the printer returns to the Direct connection settings screen.

  8. Press the HOME button.

    The HOME screen is displayed.

 Note

  • If you change the direct connection setting of the printer, also change the wireless router setting of the device.
