Follow the steps below if Windows 10 is unable to detect the camera correctly.

Use a USB cable to connect the camera and the computer.

Some cameras don't come with a USB cable and is sold separately.

With compact digital cameras, you can use the two types of USB cables below.
The cable types that you can use depend on the device model. Refer to the camera user manual.
CameraWindow connection
If the camera isn't recognized by the CameraWindow software, please check if the cases below resolve the problem.

The supported software version may differ based on the camera you use and the operating system installed on the computer.

If the camera or computer is different from the model used initially, please download the supported version of CameraWindow. Versions of the CameraWindow for various cameras and operating systems can be downloaded from the Canon homepage.

Image import problems may occur if there are too many images (more than 1,000) on the memory card. In this case, use a memory card reader to import the images.

If your computer has multiple USB terminals, connect the USB cable to a different one. This may allow the camera to be recognized by the computer.

Try Device Manager.

After you delete a previously connected camera's information from Device Manager, the camera that you reconnect to the computer, with a USB cable, should detect correctly.

Connect your computer and camera connected with the USB cable.

Turn the camera Off and On again.

Select File Explorer, from the taskbar, in the lower-left corner of the screen.

Select and right-click This PC (1), and then select Properties (2).

Select Device Manager in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Select Portable Devices on the Device Manager screen.

Select the name of your camera (1), then select the uninstall icon
(2). Next, delete the information from the device.

Select OK.

The information about your camera will be deleted from the Device Manager.

Select the Scan for hardware changes icon
.

If the camera is recognized, the screen below should display.

If the Tap to choose what happens with this device screen appears, in the upper-right corner of the desktop, the screen may turn off.

Select Tap to choose what happens with this device to import your images.

The screen below appears. Select Downloads Images From Canon Camera.

- CameraWindow starts and images can now be imported.
