Connecting to a printer and printing via Wi-Fi

Solution

You can connect your camera to a printer and print using Wi-Fi.
When establishing a wireless connection with a printer, you can either use the camera as an access point (Camera Access Point Mode) or use another access point.
IMPORTANT
  • This camera requires a PrintBridge-compatible printer (supporting DPS over IP) for printing via Wi-Fi.
  • Procedures for connecting the camera to a printer via Wi-Fi are explained below. For more information on printer-specific Wi-Fi settings, please refer to the printer’s instruction manual.
NOTE
  • Connections require that a memory card with saved images be in the camera.
  • Follow these instructions when using the camera as an access point.

Connecting your camera and printer via Wi-Fi

Register the printer you want to connect to using Wi-Fi.
IMPORTANT
The procedure is shown on a PowerShot ELPH 190 / IXUS 180 for the purposes of explanation. The position and shape of the operation buttons, screens displayed, and setting items may differ according to the model you use.

1. Press the [ ] button.

NOTE
  • If the [Device Nickname] screen is displayed, press the [ ] [ ] buttons to choose [OK], and then press the [ ] button.
  • With the default settings, the device name () is displayed.
  • This nickname will be displayed on [Select a Device] screen when connecting to other devices via Wi-Fi.
  • To change the camera’s nickname, press the [ ] [ ] buttons to choose the [Nickname] field, press the [ ] button to display the keyboard, and then enter the desired nickname. After you have finished entering the nickname, press the [MENU] button to return to the registration screen, press the [ ] button, choose [OK], and then press the [ ] button.

2. Press the [ ], [ ], [ ], [ ] buttons, to choose [ ], and then press the [ ] button.


3. Press the [ ], [ ] buttons to choose [Add a Device], and then press the [ ] button.

NOTE
  • You can connect to smartphones that you have already connected to by choosing them on the [Select a Device] screen in step 3.
  • When you press the [ ] button to open the Wi-Fi menu after the first time, recent destinations will be listed first when you access the Wi-Fi menu. You can easily connect again by pressing the [ ] , [ ] buttons to choose the device and then pressing the button [ ]. To add a new device, display the device selection screen by pressing the [ ] , [ ] buttons and configure the setting. If you prefer not to display recent target devices, choose [MENU] [ ] tab [Wireless settings] [Wi-Fi Settings] [Target History] [Off].

4. Choose the displayed SSID (network name) from the printer's Wi-Fi setting menu.

NOTE
If you open the [ ] tab on the MENU screen, select [Wireless settings] [Wi-Fi Settings] [Password], and change the setting to [On], the SSID and the password will appear on the screen and you can improve the security.In this case, enter the password displayed on the camera in the password field on the smartphone when it is displayed.

5. Once the printer is ready for the connection, the printer’s name will be displayed on the camera. Press the [ ] , [ ] buttons to choose the printer’s name, and then press the [ ] button.

6. After the printer has been registered, a screen similar to the following one will be displayed.

7. Press the [ ] , [ ] buttons to choose the images you want to print, and then press the [ ] button.


8. The menu items will be displayed.
Press the [ ] , [ ] buttons to choose [ : Print ] () and then press the [ ] button.

9. The screen for specifying the print settings appears.
  • To specify the number of prints, press the [ ] , [ ] buttons to choose ( ). Then, press the [ ] button and make the settings.
  • To add the date to images, press the [ ] , [ ] buttons to choose (). Then, press the [ ] button and make the settings.
  • Press the [ ] , [ ] buttons to choose [Paper Settings], ( ) and then press the [ ] button.

10. The screen for setting the paper size appears.
Press the [ ], [ ] buttons to choose the paper size, and then press the [ ] button.
  • [Default] has been selected in the example image above.

11. The screen for setting the paper type appears.
Press the [ ], [ ] buttons to choose the paper type, and then press the [ ] button.
  • [Photo] has been selected in the example image above.

12. The layout (border) settings screen appears.
Press the [ ], [ ] buttons to choose a layout, and then press the [ ] button.
  • [Bordered] has been selected in the example image above.

13. The camera returns to the print setting screen.
: Make sure that the settings are correct.
: Press the [ ] with [Print] selected to begin printing.

14. Printing now begins.
