Description

When using a newer Canon camera, is it necessary to install a newer version of the software on my computer even if a previous version is already installed? (PowerShot G9 X / PowerShot G5 X)

Solution

The software currently installed on your computer may not be compatible with newer camera models.
In such cases, download the version of the [Digital Camera Software ] for the applicable camera model from the downloads page of the Canon website and install it to overwrite the previous version. The application software installer will install/update the software as necessary based on the following criteria:

  • If the software version included in the [Digital Camera Software] is newer than the version already installed on your computer, an update will be performed.
  • If the software version included in the [Digital Camera Software] is not installed on your computer, the software will be newly installed.
  • If the software version included in the [Digital Camera Software] is older than, or the same as the version already installed on your computer, the current version will be prioritized, and installation will not be performed.
NOTE
Software updates will not affect the cameras you have used before or images previously taken.

Installing new software to overwrite a previous version

Install the software that is supplied with your new camera to overwrite a previous version on your computer by referring to the following page. (The procedures are the same as those for new installation.)
