This article explains how to connect the MG5400 Series printer to the wireless LAN via the Standard Setup method.

Solution

If you have changed wireless routers or if you have changed the security settings on your current wireless router, the printer may lose its connection to the wireless network.  In such cases, you will need to reconnect the printer to your network via the Standard Setup method.  To connect the printer to the wireless LAN via the Standard Setup method, follow the steps below.
  1. On the Home screen, use the up and down arrow keys until WLAN setup appears.  Press the left Function button underneath WLAN setup.

  2. The printer will begin to search for nearby networks.

When the following screen appears, Standard setup is highlighted by default.  Press OK.

Note:  If a WPS-enabled wireless router is nearby, a message will appear on the screen telling you to press the WPS button on the router, then the OK button on the printer.  If this message appears, press the Stop  button on the printer to bypass this message.

  3. The printer will search for nearby networks.  After it has finished searching, a list of nearby networks will appear on the screen.  Use the up and down arrow keys to select your network from the list.  Once you have highlighted your network, press OK.

  4. If your wireless router has a password, you will come to the Enter passphrase screen.

Press OK to proceed to the character entry screen.

Note:  If your wireless network does NOT have a password on it, the printer will attempt to connect to the network automatically.  When it connects, press OK.

  5. On the character entry screen, use the arrows and the OK button to enter in the characters for your wireless network's password.  By default, lower case letters will be on the screen.  If you need to switch to upper case letters or numbers and symbols, press the middle Function button below the screen.

Pressing the middle Function button (below Aa1) switches the character set to upper case letters:

Pressing the middle Function button a second time will change over to numbers and symbols:

While entering in the password, if you make a mistake, you can press the right Function button (below Del. character) to delete the incorrect characters.

  6. After entering in the password, press the left Function button (under Done).

  7. You will be back at the Enter passphrase screen.  The password you entered in will be shown on the screen.  If you need to make any corrections to the password, press OK and you will be able to make any corrections needed.  If no corrections are needed, press the left Function key (under End setup).

  8. The printer will attempt to connect to the network.

When the printer connects to the network, press OK.

If the printer fails to connect to the wireless network, press OK and verify that the password you have entered is correct.  Make any changes if necessary.  If the password is correct, try unplugging the router for 15 seconds.  Plug it back in.  After it re-initializes, try to connect the printer to the network again.
