Adjusting the Print Head Manually from a Mac - MG3020 / MG3022

Description

This article explains how to adjust the PIXMA MG3020 / MG3022 print head manually using a Mac.

 

Solution

Any error in the print head installation position can cause color and line shifts. Adjusting the print head position improves print results.

Print head position can be adjusted either automatically or manually.

This article describes the procedure for adjusting the head position manually.
 

Print Head Alignment
 

  1. From the pop-up menu of Canon IJ Printer Utility2, select Custom Settings.
     

 Note

  • Clicking the link will take you to an article explaining how to launch the IJ Printer Utility.  The article applies to this model as well as several other printer models.  Although the article references earlier versions of Mac OS X, this printer is NOT supported in versions of Mac OS X earlier than 10.8.5.
     
  1. Set to manual adjustment
    Select Align heads manually.
     

  2. Apply settings
    Click Apply. When the confirmation message appears, click OK.
     

  3. From the pop-up menu of Canon IJ Printer Utility2, select Test Print.
     

  4. Click Print Head Alignment.
    A message appears.
     

  5. Load paper in printer
    In the rear tray, load 3 sheets of plain A4-sized or Letter-sized paper.
     

  6. Run head position adjustment

    Check that the printer power is on, and then click Align Print Head.
    The first sheet of print head adjustment patterns is printed.
     

     Important

    • While the printer is printing, do not open the printer cover.
       
  7. Check printed patterns

    For each entry field, enter the number of the pattern with the least prominent streaks or stripes. Then click OK.
     


     

     Note

    • If the patterns are not uniform, select the pattern with the least prominent vertical streaks.
       

       
      (A) Less prominent vertical streaks
      (B) More prominent vertical streaks
       
    • If the patterns are not uniform, select the pattern with the least prominent horizontal stripes.
       

       
      (A) Less prominent horizontal stripes
      (B) More prominent horizontal stripes
       
  8. Check the message contents, and then click OK.
    The print head adjustment patterns on the second sheet are printed.
     

     Important

    • While the printer is printing, do not open the printer cover.
       
  9. Check printed patterns
    For each entry field, enter the number of the pattern with the least prominent streaks. Then click OK.
     


     

     Note

    • If the patterns are not uniform, select the pattern with the least prominent vertical streaks.
       

       
      (A) Less prominent vertical streaks
      (B) More prominent vertical streaks
       
  10. Check the message contents, and then click OK.
    The print head adjustment patterns on the third sheet are printed.
     

     Important

    • While the printer is printing, do not open the printer cover.
       
  11. Check printed patterns
    For each entry field, enter the number of the pattern with the least prominent stripes. Then click OK.
     


     

     Note

    • If the patterns are not uniform, select the pattern with the least prominent horizontal stripes.
       

       
      (A) Less prominent horizontal stripes
      (B) More prominent horizontal stripes
       

 Note

  • After completing head position adjustment, click Print Head Alignment. When the message appears, click Print Alignment Value to print a list of the current settings.
